You sunk my battleship

The escort carrier is GAMBIER BAY (CVE-73). I like that idea, use .22s for shells, .45s for torpedoes.
All we had left by the time we got to those targets today were .22s, but that would have been a good idea!

If anyone cares, I scored 3 direct "bomb" hits on Yamato amidships, while my buddy got one good one on Gambier Bay below the waterline.

Exeter lost her seaplane and rudder, as well as taking a bad hit below the belt. I only managed to put one through Graff Spee's mast.

Washington and Kirishima scared each other, but no direct hits.:p

I knocked out Bismarck's A turret, but my buddy scored 3 good ones on Hood's machinery and magazines.....

At 25yds, these make quite challenging targets!

someone should invent a "smoking target" stick on. Not one that explodes, but just emits a puff of smoke when hit with a .22. The stick on targets would be more fun and add excitement to the battleship game. Of course only hit dead center would cause it to smoke. Calling all chemists!

I award you the DSC. Distinguished Shooting Cross.

You inspired me to make up some of these for my range trip today, Gunny. Its the Axis and Allies edition- each target depicts an actual engagement between opponents in WW2. Each shooter picks a side and gets 5 shots to cause as much damage as possible, lol.

Bonus points to anyone who ID's all four pairs of ships.....:D
I have been wanting to take my front-stuffers out for a while. Now I gotta make up some monitor-merrimac targets.

Smoke is not reliable, but little containers of colored chalk powder are easy. Too bad 35mm film canisters are a thing of the past.

how about little drug packets filled with flour? haven't tried it, but it's an idea?

wonder if you could adjust the ratio of phosphorous down to make it less volatile in handling, but still have it go boom on impact.

For older kids it would be pretty cool to just have squares on the front target and ships behind it. and then give them the quardinates of the squares to hit to sink the ships.

Thanks Bwana, but............
Only problem with phosphorus and potassium chlorate or potassium nitrate (Oxidizers) is the mixture can explode all by itself, no need to hit it. That makes it very dangerous. The crack of the 22 rifle would probably obviate the snap of the target anyway.
I have asked my brother, a chemist, if anything is available that will fill the bill.
The best idea yet is the flour capsule idea. Simple and sounds like it would fill the bill.

Two different color shot and see dots would be cool. Then you could build boats with 1 color and then fill in grid with other color.

After quick glance at amazon, you could get 1 inch splatter dots, and some 1 inch black file stickers...Then just make the boats with the splatter stickers.
