Today I bought the roofing for the 600 yd. platform paid for by the guys I shoot with. This platform is on a fairly steep hillside on my property, without which, one would be folded like a taco to arrange oneself behind the rifle. They kinda insisted on deluxe accommodations for shooting prone at this distance. If one were shooting at something living, I'm doubtful any of them could hit it on the second shot. Great guys, I love them all. But...
I've cheated.
I've brought a piece of plywood to the site and got myself all dialed in way ahead of these guys. it's alternately amusing and boring watching them burn match ammo to get to ring the steel. The difference in price of their blasters vs. mine must be frustrating to them. I'm shooting a used Savage FP10 with a SS 12x on it and it shoots quite well. I've put maybe 2k rounds thru it and it still satisfies.
Oh, yeah, yesterday I loaded 50 rds. of 175 SMKs over 42 GR. of Varget in neck sized cases. For the weekend, after we've put the roof on to avoid a combination of frostbite and sunburn.
Great fun.
