Desire for something new....

To answer the original question, yes, I do and that applies to handguns to boot. I think I've conquered my last bright idea of an AR in .30 caliber but I'm sure another idea will pop into my head before long.

I don't have a "need" for an AR-15 but I've had 2 lowers for almost 2 years. Just recently built both into pistols, then changed one to a rifle. And as little sense as it makes for me to have two 5.56x45 firearms when I already have a .223 bolt action, now I'm looking into buying a .224 Valkyrie upper and BCG.

To my knowledge there's only one public range within 2 hours that has more than 100 yard line and the private ranges that I'm aware of only go to about 400 yards. I know of 2 ranges within a 5 hour drive that go out past 600 yards, where the Valkyrie could shine. But I'm still going to buy one within the next few months, as long as no surprise expenses come before then.

On the other hand I’m looking really hard at also building a 358 yeti AR15 upper which is a handload only cartridge you have to form brass for.

Yeah, the fact that .308 brass becomes .358 brass with just a pass through the FL die was a definite plus for me. Almost makes up for the fact that .35 cal bullets only come in a handful of configurations and most have the BC of a bus... :p

All the time! With ARs it's really bad because there are so many ways you can go... Urges for calibers, barrel lengths, receiver designs, colors, weight, budgets, etc. Finding a spent casings in a caliber that I don't own makes me think, "I've now got this casing... it would be wasteful not to have a gun chambered for it." I guess it's one of the good problems to have being a gun enthusiast.

I take it you have one? My hunting is typically 50-150 yards, so it looks like a good fit for me. How does yours shoot as far as accuracy?

Just use your imagination. That's what I do.:D

My mental myopia has saved me $Thousands$ over the years.

Three decades now I've been tryin' to think of a problem a 338-06 would solve... that my 30-06 M1 Garand wouldn't.

Still don't have one.

(although it got me a 77/357 and a RAR Compact .22LR not too long ago.)

:D

Still looking for time to get some serious workups done, but so far I've got a Speer 220 HCFN at 2300fps that will do about MOA from my 16" barrel.

Store used gun racks are full of broken dreams, and worn-out great guns that once were lots of fun. That's what keeps the hobby lively. Go for it!

I just bought a heavy barrel Rem. 700. Why? Because the other five 308's that I have don't have heavy barrels. See how easy that was. :) But I also bought a heavy barrel Savage in .223 because my other bolt gun in .223 is a Win. Featherweight.
I'm thinking about building an AR10. Why? Because I don't have one. I just picked up another 1,000 rounds of 7.62 NATO to give me another reason to build one.
I also want to build a bolt gun in .277 Wolverine for no good reason. All I need to do is find a Savage 110 in .223 at a good price. Since I have no need for a used Savage 110 in .223, it would be used as the base gun for the Wolverine build.
I don't think I have bought a gun that I needed in the last 20 years. I find the urge to buy a new gun an nu-quenchable thirst.

I have bought rifles that I have no real reason to have except that I wanted something new on occasion.
I bought a custom Sako heavy barrelled .308 at a gun show about a year ago. I don't shoot rifles competitively or have access to a range over 200yds. No need for this rifle other than I wanted it. Sure is a beautiful rifle though.
Why did I buy it? Probably for the same reason I just spent about $1800 building a precision AR-15 in .223Wylde. My son had built a couple of AR15s and he convinced me that I needed one as well. What started out as a build of a common run of the mill AR morphed into an expensive build with a lot of high dollar parts. Now that I have it, I have no idea what it is good for except that after a few magazines having been shot through it, it does appear that it is quite accurate. With some work I think it will easily be a very accurate rifle. It sure looks nice and my son did a great job on the build. I also am sure that he will inherit it one day. I just don't know what I am going to do with it.

Odd calibers? Umm no---what stops me is the cost down the road

Standard calibers----now you should see all my .22's, .223's, 9mm's, .45's, 12ga, 20ga and bolt action rifles in .308--.270--.30-06 etc....

Still looking at a .30-30 and another .22---and so it goes.

Sometimes, the urge makes no sense to other people, but it makes perfect sense to you. I always hesitate before I tell people I have a 458 Winchester Magnum rifle, and I hunt game in the United States. It’s only my years of understanding of the 45-70 that helped me make sense of it. Full factory loads weren't what I wanted at all. I wanted a 45-70 bolt action, without the rim problems. So I happily shoot cast bullets at 45-70 velocities, and do very well with game in the US.

Today, it’s more common to see used guns that are like new and maybe even unfired. I think a majority of my guns fit this category. Which means the previous owner didn’t have any more need for them than I do

At one time I had about 70 guns. Probably 2/3rds were never fired by me. So the trend continues.

You sound like a single guy with plenty of money. Go for it!
