I have a military profile Mauser 98k receiver [with the stripper clip guide and hump] that was drilled/tapped before i bought it. When I bought it, it had a 2-piece scope mount on it, but the rear mount was unstable since it only had 1 screw.
I bought an EGW 1-piece picatinny scope mount, partly because it was machined with the curve of the Mauser receiver on the underside. I measured the distances between the holes with a digital caliper, but it appears my measurements were off by about a millimeter.
The front two holes align perfectly with the holes on the receiver, but the back hole is about 1 mm off.
It appears to me that I will have to buy an undrilled EGW mount, and take the rifle and mount to a smith for drilling.
Anyone have any other ideas ?

Yup. If an 8-40 will clean up the entire off-center hole, then simply enlarging the hole is a good plan. Just depends how far off center the hole might be.

If re-drilling to 8-40 won't do it then soldering in some long 6-48 screws, cutting the heads off, and filing flush works. You need to remove the oxide/bluing from the screw thread first. Then re-drill in the correct location.

I would just elongate the rear hole on the mount using a round needle file. Some mounts come from the factory with elongated holes for this very reason.

One Piece Mounts for the Mauser come in two flavors: The mounts to fit commercial receivers and the mounts to fit Military receivers (with the clip ears). It may be that the gunsmith drilled yours using a commercial receiver pattern. EGW has mounts made both ways ( http://www.egwguns.com/mauser/ ). If your rifle is drilled for a commercial mount, you may have to have a gunsmith remove the clip loading hump.
