So I'm going on almost a month now with a Cabela's/Bass Pro exclusive the Savage 12fv in 204 Ruger. Maybe it's a lot to do with the cartridge but this is bar none the best out of the box accuracy I've experienced in a budget rifle. Caught it on sale at $339.
Since new I really didn't take particular care with pre-cleaning or barrel break in or anything and basically just threw a scope on and started shooting. The bolt started off pretty ruff and somewhat dragged the blind magazine unit it broke in a little and smoothed out. From start to 100 rds, this rifle has yet to fail shooting cloverleafs with the first 3 rounds fired. Best measured is a 3 shot group at .4 outside edge to outside edge. 5 shot groups have been at .7" to .75" regularly outside to outside.
I've been shooting off of sand bags and would love to see what it would do in a sled.
In one setting of 25 consecutive shots fired, all hits fell within 1.25". In the hands of a better shooter I really think that would have stayed at 1" or better. All shots described are at 100 yds using Dog Town 32gn factory ammo. "subbed to Nosler", and fired from sand bags.

I have rifles that will put down under 1". But this thing is making me look like a way better shooter than I really am. I would definitely recommend this rifle. Sales are pretty regular coupled with the occasional factory rebate. Just keep in mind it is a full bull barrel and gets heavy fast if carrying in field. The stock is free floated but very cheap. I will be putting the money savings into a better stock and possibly a removable mag replacement kit. Happy shooting.

I have a 12FV in 223 with a 24X scope
It is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.
Nice on the bench but way too heavy to carry hunting.

I have one in 223, very accurate. Got it on sale as well. $179 after $100 rebate and Cabela Card sign up offer ($20). The only complaint I have is the single stack centered feed magazine. Hard to load a round in the mag and after 30 or so, my thumb's finger nail feels like splitting. I also have a Savage Stevens 200 in 223 with double stack magazine, I wish Savage goes back to the double stack magazine!

I've got a 12FV in .204 also, and my experience pretty well mirrors yours. I've fired my best groups with 39gr SBKs and 40gr V-Max. It was purchased shortly after the .204 Ruger was introduced, and the shortage of available factory ammo at the time is what got me started handloading.

Thanks for the review, I envy you guys being able to walk into a Cabela's and buy those lol.

For you centerfeed mag guys, pull the magazine out and very carefully bend the lips out till they will load comfortably, but not easily.

I use those mag boxes in projects from time to time, and massaging the feed lips/rails is easy, just takes some care.

Don't be too envious. Cables has a store within easy driving distance from me and let me tell you, a shooter could go broke in that place. Lol
