Is anyone else out there reloading the 500 S & W besides me? Some of these threads have been dead for years....hmmmm

I do! Lots of H110 for a terrific boom and flash! One day, I might make some light loads and shoot an IDPA match with it. Need to find a holster first, though.

I bought one several years ago to add to my collection. It's a fun gun to shoot. I cast my own bullets and powder coat them. I started with H100 moderate loads, but after 5 shots, the ribs on the rubber grips made my palms sore. I worked up a lighter load with Trail Boss and it's much easier on my hands. Even light loads are impressive- I have some steel targets on my pistol range that I shoot with everything from 22LR to 44 mag with no problems. Since it's a pistol range, the targets are bolted to hinged 2x4s that hang from the back stop. One shot with the lighter S&W 500 load ripped one off the stand and sent it flying. One of the guys I was shooting with said it reminded him of the scene in Police Academy where Tackleberry destroys a target at the police range using a S&W 629. It's the one gun I always break out when someone comes to my range for the first time- the 440 gr bullet is great for demolishing bottles.

I handload 325 grain Penn bullets over the top of Unique. sends 'em downrange at about 1500. Super fun to shoot...super accurate...smack that 100 yd gong all day long.

I also reload for it. Trail boss is the way to go for easy shooting lead loads. I also own a Handi Rifle in this caliber and have worked up a load with Missouri Bullets Crusher #1 Hy Tec coated bullets that is every bit as accurate as my 45-70 caliber rifle loads. I can ring that gong with booring regularity for cheap. That H110 makes a statement at the range for sure!!:D Looking at my data I have used H110/296, Li'l Gun, and Longshot and had good loads with that 400 grain bullet.
