That’s more than I’d pay for one new. The Buckmasters II doesn’t impress me. Others like them though. I’m also not saying it’s a bad deal for anyone other than myself, everyone’s eyes are different.

I use one on a Ruger American 308. If find the scope in it's price range to be highly useful. My Buckmaster is an older model and came second hand already mounted mounted on a rifle.
If it's the round bell, aluminum capped buckmasters, then it's actually a mid tier offering for Nikon. The new Buckmasters 2 is what replaced the Prostaff as their entry lvl scope.

I happen to like original buckmasters, and have or have had about a 1/2 dozen. The new BM2s are functional, and reasonably priced, but again are not my cup of tea.
I'd choose a Bushnell Trophy over a comparable BM2, but again they arnt BAD scopes.

As a rule I don’t see well through Nikon with two exceptions, the original Buckmasters and the ProStaff Target EFR 3-9x40 AO. I don’t believe the Buckmasters II is in the same class as the original either.

The buckmasters 2 says 2 on the name ring on the objective I BELIEVE....I looked over the one my buddy had but I can't honestly remember what it said....

The buckmasters and BM2 are physically different. The original has aluminum turret caps, the BM2s are plastic.
The original has a tapperd front on the objective bell, the BM2 is straight like most scopes.

Names gave power: Nikon should have thought twice about making this modification downward on the Buckmaster. Are we comparing two different scopes with the same name?

I would say yes. I’d also opine that very seldom does the second iteration of anything stand up to the first, a notable exception being The Godfather: Part Two.

Basically yes.

What Nikon did was juxtapose the Buckmasters and Prostaff lines. The Prostaff used to be the bottom tier, and the Buckmasters was a step up, then the Monarchs.

Now the Buckmasters 2 is the entry line, and the Prostaff variants 3/5/7 go up from there. The Monarchs are similarly devided into magnification ranges, but I BELIEVE withing a product line they are otherwise the same.

It's either a confusing idea from marketing or a bait-and-switch from management.

I have one of the original Buckmasters, and it was considerably more than the Buckmasters ll.

They suck in low light...…..
They don't for me. I have killed many bucks with only 1 minute of legal shooting left where you could not tell what they are with the naked eye. I could see them easily with the Nikon buckmaster II.

I think they are below par in low light too.
