I have a gen 3 Glock 27 in .40 s&w.

This was my first Autoloader hand gun purchase as a young'n in 1997 or so when they first came out. It has Great sentimental value to me in that respect so I have no intentions of selling it to get a 26. I have carried it for years but not shot it a ton (2-3k rounds) from knowing the .40 is hard on the smaller frame.

I never gave much thought into converting it to 9mm but last night a friend gave me a Lone wolf g27 9mm conversion barrel he never used for free, so now my interest is piqued. Is it simple as dropping in the conversion barrel and using g26 magazines?

It seems a google search leads me down several different paths. Some say yes, just 26 mags...some say no and that you need a 26 extractor and a ejector...some say you just need the 26 recoil spring... And so on and so on..

I want to do it right. If you have one of these and you have done the conversion i'd like your input.

Merry Christmas!

The recoil spring assembly is the same for the 26 and 27. I keep spares and they list both guns, plus a couple more models.
For a carry gun I'd change mags And extractor to be safe, but I carry the .40s anyway. That said I've used the same .40 extractor in my 22 and 27 for range use and had no issues except with some light reloads in 9mm. Regardless they are only 15 dollars or so online. And take 60 seconds to change

For range work the .40 mags will probably be perfectly reliable with 9mm ammo. If you get BTF you might want to change extractor and ejector module or whatever they call it but it'll probably work just fine with just the conversion barrel.

as 1k says, all my 40-9 barrels run fine with nothing but the barrel swap. I use them for range work only. If i were to depend my life on it. I would change the mag, ejector (3rd gen only) and extractor. I can not count how many rounds have been thru the 9mm barrel, and only had stove times for the first 500 rounds or so. In fact, my G22 have never even fire 40 ammo, just 9mm.

You MIGHT have problems running SOME 9mm hollow point ammo from a .40 magazine -- but not all HP ammo. (Sometimes the opening on the "mouth" of some hollow point ammos will bite into the feed ramp; others will feed just fine.) Except for that, the gun should run beautifully with only a conversion barrel. (Some folks don't even get a "conversion" barrel (i.e., one designed to fit the larger opening in the slide) and find that a stock 9mm barrel runs fine. I've always used conversion barrels in Glocks.

A 27 is my EDC .... The 180gr HST is my carry ammo ... I have a couple of 23's , one of them is a dedicated 32 ..
The other is fulltime 23 ...
In the 23/32 , I at times at the range stick in a 40/9 barrel ... I stick a 17 mag in it and raise cane ...! Other than a odd ejecting pattern.. It has ran 100% with hundreds of rounds ... For range use , barrel swap .. Try the 27/23 mags if they are a no go .. Pick up some 19 or 17 mags ...
Im a 27 fanboy

I got a conversion barrel and Model 17 magazine for my Model 22. It has yet to malfunction with 9mm ammo. I have heard you should probably switch out the extractor if you are going to use it for SD, but mine is just a range toy, so I haven't bothered.

I ended up picking up a cheapo $14 ets g26 mag at the Fun store near the gun range. I swapped the barrel into the g27 slide and ran it with the ETS mag. I put maybe 100 rounds of my reloaded 9mm through it 124gr tc powdercoated lee bullet over 3.8 grs of titegroup. It ran fine with no issues. Seemed to eject just fine. I'll more than likely grab a few factory g26 mags as well.

Thanks all.
