Over in this thread, I asked about a Ruger Security Six, 6" barrel, adjustable sights- I saw in a local gun store. General consensus was to get it, so went out this morning and picked it up. Never have seen a Ruger in person with such a glossy bluing. Noticed that it has an over travel screw on the rear of the trigger guard.

The serial number starts with 157- which looks like it puts it around 81' to 82' if I am reading it right. Whoever had it before kept it well.

Got it for $400 plus tax.

Here are the pictures (apologies, the pics doubled up)

My avatar is a picture of my Liberty model (manuf. 1976) I bought a couple years ago. I paid about the same for mine. The Liberty's are supposed to bring a small premium but the pawn shop employee didn't say anything about it and I certainly didn't bring it up.

I like mine a lot, just has a solid feel that inspires confidence. I mostly shoot 158 grain hard cast lead semi wad cutters in 38 Special with at max load of Power Pistol. Seems to just feel right in this revolver.

Hope you enjoy yours as much.

Yes someone definitely spent some time and money polishing and bluing your new Security Six! Nicely done too!

Let us know how it does at the range (as in hoping it shoots as good as it looks)!

That gun is gorgeous, I always wondered how nice a Ruger would look of it had a polished finish. I could never figure out why their blued revolvers are always a dull finish and some of their stainless revolvers are a lot more polished.

I'd send the pictures of the shiney finish to Ruger and show them how nice they can look. Although I'm sure their R&D dept has already explored that.

I would buy blued Ruger revolvers with that finish, even at a higher price, before I would buy the dull finish if I had a choice.

If I wanted a beater, I would do like most of us and buy a used one.

You stole that one. You will like it. I have a blue steel Redhawk. My bluing looks great, but yours has mine beat.

You did well!

Mine is a 157- and I did buy it in 81 IIRC. Mine however is not that beautiful, who ever did the work on that one did a fine job. It is one sweet looking Ruger, enjoy.

Man, I'd love to find a Security Six like the ones you guys found for $400.00! Well done!

Stay safe.
