What is your favorite rifle to hunt with?

For groundhogs it was my Ruger #1B in ,243 win.
For coyotes my 700 ADL synth in .243 win.
For deer under PCR regs.........Ruger .44 mag Sporter
For deer under HP rifle (in my state) Remington 760 ADL in .35 rem.
So for a sunny day rig, or out west.......am looking at a #1A in some flavor. 7x57 or .30-06
Muzzleloader my fave was my TC Renegade. I dumped it when I got my Hawken Silver Elite.
Small game? Am still trying to figure that one out.
Have three .22 rifles and can't decide on which one to keep.

M1 Garand with 180gr SP in a 5rd EN-Bloc clip to keep DNR off my back. I also carry a 1911 as a backup since ive run into a few rabid dogs/coyotes over the years, rabies shots are not something I enjoy.

Weatherby Vanguard in 270Win 24"BBL

160gr NP's are good medicine for any large critter I will ever run up on.
130gr SP's are great for coyotes and whitetail.
90gr Speer TNT's are perfect for coyotes as well and anything smaller may run across.

It suits my needs for any animal I will ever need a rifle for. Syn stock is nice to not worry about scratching. Although I also have a custom wood stock for it that looks pretty good. Plus the gun just.plain.shoots. It's been extremely accurate so far.

Tough to pick just one. I started out with a first year production 700 ADL in 25-06 that I put a Fajen maple stock on. It now has over 3000 rounds through the barrel and still holds under an inch @ 100 yards. This is the rifle I took my first two elk with - 120 Nosler partition at 42 and 50 paces.

When Dad shot out his BAR 270, I gave that rifle to him. I replaced it with a pawn shop rescue 700 BDL in 25-06 w/ a Douglas barrel and a nice piece of walnut. This one has nearly 2000 rounds through it and still prints under 3/4" groups at 100.

I always wanted a 6.5x55 Swede. That's what I've taken all of my deer with so far this year. Another pawn shop rescue that started out as a Model 70 30-06. Sent it to Pac-nor for the barrel and found a Super-Grade stock to put it in. Prints 5 shots in .33" Deadly accurate rifle. Need to play with the trigger some and get it below the 5 lb factory level.

The one I'll work on this weekend and hopefully bloody is my 'Holy Grail' rifle - First model Newton rifle in 256 Newton caliber. Made in 1915 and shipped over right as the 'Great War' was beginning.

State hunting regulations don't offer much in the way of large game rifle hunting, been limited to black powder for years. First year production Knight MK85 with Swarovski glass gets used the most.

That will change this year, start using an AR15 in 450 Bushmaster. Will let you know how it goes.

Deep Snow.....or short fence post? You decide.

The rifle leaning against the barbed wire fence reminded me of when we used to hunt birds with waxed-paper shells. We stopped to talk for a few minutes and my buddy leaned his shotgun against an electric fence and we talked for a bit. A few minutes later, I spied smoke spiraling out of his barrel, so we grabbed the gun before it went off. Must have been quite a "hot" electric fence, the kind that burns grass that grows up to it.

Don't really have a favorite. It depends on what kind of hunting that I am doing. If I am setting a large field I will probably have my Bergara B-14 in 6.5 CM. It has a 6X18 Vortex and I know what it will do out to 500 yards. If I am setting smaller areas where my maximum range will be about 300 yards, I will have my Rem 700 243 with a 4X14.5 Legend. This rifle will shoot sub-MOA with 95 gr Ballistic Silvertips and will take the wind out of a whitetail's sails. When the acorns are on the ground and the deer are in the timber, the Savage 10 300WSM comes out. With a 2X7 Leupold this little rifle works great in close quarters as well as out to 300 yards.

1983 Model 70fwt, (push feed)
Brand new PacNor barrel, stainless, .270win
Rifle Basix Trigger
McMillan Hunter Stock, Graphite fill
Leupold 3-9

I don't know yet. Strange as it may sound, I just sold my "go to" hunting rifle that served me well for over 20 years: a Model Seven in .308. Maybe I'll regret it, but I don't think so. I replaced it with a semi-custom Remington 700 Ti in .260 Ackley. Newly scoped it weighs in at 6 lb 5 oz. I haven't hunted it yet, but since I don't have the .308 any more, it will be the one next time I get out. No idea when that will be, though; I haven't hunted since moving to Texas ...

That is a good looking rifle.

Living and hunting here in Gloucester, Va. There’s no monsters in the woods around here so for whitetails i used a 30/30 or a 44 mag lever action. For squirrels a ruger 10/22

Could you post more pics with the stock being more visible? That's a cool gun!
She's pretty crude. We are certain that it has been converted from flintlock to percussion. Hammer Mark's are clearly visible on the bottom half of the barrel(hidden under the full stock). I had to have about three inches cut off the breech end due to erosion...and a breech plug and new tang made. This rifle was in a lamp stand in my parents house since I was a boy.

Thanks for sharing, so cool having a gun in the family for so long!

My favorite go to "short range deer gun" is this Remington 6oo in .35 Remington which with my handloads of 180 grain bullets at 2400 FPS is much less than 2" at 200 yards with a 1- 4x scope ! Crazy accurate and the deer hit with it just flop ! Destroys the biggest wild hogs that pop up ! Very handy on an ATV and what I use in local orchards and vineyards when invited if I know shots will never be much over 200 yards and more like 75 yards. For some reason it is not as loud as say a .308 or greater cartridge.

Longer shots and possibly larger game up to elk (but not my favorite Elk gun) this Harry Lawson Custom 600 Remington .308 has taken them to 340 yards and is so light and fun to carry around. The brake takes away the recoil of this 6.5 pound rifle and the many customized action features including a 1.5# trigger make it my favorite for mountains and big deer or caribou ext over the years. I did not take it to Africa tho used a .375 for that which is also my favorite elk rifle . I also have a favorite 1956 Mannlicher Schoenauer .243 Win carbine for hunting the small local blacktail and coyotes on local ranches when invited. It has a 3-18 Swavoroski on it lately :) Here is the Lawson .308 which now wears a Zeiss 42mm HD5 2-10x which I bought for $549 at Natchez !
