So the Washington Lieutenant Governor skipped a joint legislative session today because our laws allow people to carry concealed handguns inside the State House chamber.

Washington state's lieutenant governor declined to preside at Gov. Jay Inslee's State of the State speech because he said he was concerned people - CPL-holders - might bring concealed weapons into the joint session of the Legislature.

This is the official statement from the house's Chief Clerk (who factually and without evident bias confirmed that it's always been this way here):
"Absent any specific security issue, and in accordance with the law, the House kept the galleries open so that the public could see its government in action."

"Safety is always a concern, but so is the transparency of the Legislature’s work on behalf of the people."

No threats, just a politician scared of guns and law-abiding citizens with guns.

Boy, he would stroke out in the Utah State House where a sizeable portion of the reps OPEN carry!:D

The statement noted that the governor, the attorney general, the secretary of state, the commissioner of public lands, other statewide elected officials, state Supreme Court justices, foreign dignitaries, agency directors, and legislators all attended, and that adequate security measures were in place.

The House and Senate ban openly carried weapons in their galleries, and the Senate bans concealed guns as well. But the House allows properly licensed concealed carry permit holders to carry concealed weapons in its gallery.

But Habib, who is blind, said he is concerned the House policy leaves elected officials vulnerable.

Funny how perception can effect people especially when they can’t tell the difference (he is blind) between open and concealed carry....

The last election caused the Washington state house to shift to the left. I suspect that the house will soon ban carry by permit holders. I suspect that the Lt Gov may have been in cahoots with an effort to do that.

Guy sounds like he's too timid for politics. If he doesn't want to go to work, and do his job,
maybe he should become a janitor, or something.

Maybe he has been at one range I used to go to and seen some of the people I saw there who regularly carry and are flat out unsafe and lacking in the basics. Seriously, I have seen some really bad gun handling from people who had to have a carry permit but have not learned or practiced anything.

I do understand why some people, based maybe on what they have seen, are uneasy.

He's scared of law-abiding people - that tells us all we need to know about him. Perhaps he's a closet pedophile or something, worried about some kid's dad taking revenge.

This all smacks of the shellackings of a professional victim looking for a threat to be offended by.

'' Fear of weapons is sexual immaturity,'' or something to that effect, someone said once or that was a thought in a dream, Im not sure, but I'm opinin' it now.
