Do any of you think it's needed to have a sweat shield on a iwb leather holster? I am on a very tight budget and found a pro carry hd holster on amazon for $19 free ship molded to my gun, i bought it. the one with sweat shield was $42 after shipping, i know most times the shield is only $10 more but for some reason amazon was running a special on the ones without. now i have carried the gun and hoster several times and it is a great holster but i keep thinking since i have pieces of leather lying around maybe i could put a sweat shield on it. i wear a tee shirt under my outside shirt year around but it still is on my mind if a sweat shield is needed. i only have basic tools and would have to cut it by hand and sew it by hand. just afraid i may mess it up and can't just get another holster right now, what do you all think. the gun sticks out of the holster at top exactly 1 inch. thanks for any help.

It's all personal preference.

For what it's worth, the original Milt Sparks Summer Special ( https://www.miltsparks.com/products-summer-special.php ) has no sweat shield, and most of Mitch Rosen's IWB's ( https://mitchrosen.com ) have no sweat shield.

I'm not familiar with the brand or model of holster you purchased, but I'd not be inclined to add a sweat shield to a holster that didn't come with one. If I determined I needed a sweat shield, I'd just buy another holster that has one. I get the tight budget and all, but how much did your gun cost? Certainly more than $42.

A leather sweat shield only buys you a little time.If you sweat a lot, the leather will soak through and the gun will still get sweat on it. . If you think the holster is comfortable I would leave it as it is, and just plan to wipe your gun down every night when the weather gets warm.

I make my own holsters and mainly put the upper flap/shield on them to keep the gun from digging into my side, not to protect it from anything. I carry when I'm baling hay and working on the farm and have sweat so bad the gun is dripping wet when I take it off at the end of the day. No holster is going to protect it from that, you just have to do a little more maintenance.

I used to have leather holsters and sweat a lot in harvest time, my S&W Shield suffered the worst for it, like others the sweat shield only buys time. But everyone's sweating amount differs.

I ended up switching to a Kydex holster and have no sweat related rust issues on my CZ. I'll never go back to leather on an everyday carry. On a carry piece for special occasions without the risk of sweat I would consider leather.

Sweat shield is for comfort of not having any pointy gun edges digging into you rather than actually blocking g sweat.

If your gun is carry melted then you may not even need it.
