I'm looking to buy a Silencer Co Omega for use on a 9mm pistol (and nothing else). It seems there are 2 opinions on which one to get. Silencer Co makes Omegas for both 9mm and .45. Some say the .45 can has a deeper more pleasant sound when used on a 9mm gun, but according to SiCos numbers on their site, the 9mm version suppresses better. What are the opinions from those that own something like this?

First, don't believe most published SPL reduction figures, especially SiCo's. They use the quietest host, quietest ammo, often don't have the mic in the right position and only post the most favorable session.

As for .45 cans on 9mm vs. dedicated 9mm, unless you have larger caliber hosts, go with the smaller & lighter 9mm suppressor. My Phoenix IX and Phoenix M put down almost identical numbers, but the .45 cal Phoenix M is 1/8" wider, 1" longer and 2 oz heavier.

The weights are indeed different, but the Omega lists the same external diameter on both. If you think you can make an equivalent length (4.7") pistol silencer that's quieter than the listed numbers for Omega I would have zero issues buying one from you.

Yeah, they're both fat. I personally like thinner vs. shorter on a handgun for a given weight & suppression level, which is why I went 1.25"x8" on Phoenix IX vs. 1.375"x7".

I haven't developed a 9mm K can yet. Making a stubby can that's effective is more involved than just shortening an existing design. It's on my to-do list, but life has been busy. Holidays, now tax time, hernia surgery in 3 weeks......I'll get to it, but it's gonna be a minute.

As for a <5" 9mm can that legitimately hits 131.5 dBA dry and wipeless, I'm not gonna say it's impossible, but it hasn't been done yet. The Omega 9k is closer to 138-140+ in the real world. They take the edge off, but I find them snappy and borderline painful on any host. The CGS Kraken is the quietest 9mm can on the market by a significant margin, and they're K version (4.8") registered an average of 137.16 dBA on TBAC's Pulse system with 165 gr. Hush ammo in a G17. Was 143.92 dBA with 115 gr. FMJ.

If you don't need the .300 blk rating of the Omega, I'd look hard at the Kraken SK or AAC TiRant 9M

That Kraken sk is pretty nice looking. Hopefully I can find one. From the looks of things they may get discontinued soon.

The SiCo Omega 9 can not be taken apart for cleaning so don't run any lead handloads though it.
I have shot the omega in the past and wasn't impressed with the performance in regards to sound reduction.

Just my opinion.
