Ok, I know thers some of you feller hillbillys out there on this site. I saw deer 2 different times I would have shot if I have my scoped inline. With my cva hawken and iron sights though and the 100yd + range I held my fire. My son and I were the only one hunting on my land and the whole 4 days I only heard 3 distant shots not sure any of them were m/l's. Heres my question did anybody hunt or kill any deer during those 4 days? Never thought I'd see they day that people even in WV would Quit hunt'en.

Here in Michigan, I can remember the first MLing season. Back then very few people hunted with MLers. We have a special season AFTER the regular deer season. Then, don't ask me when, the inlines got real big. Now, MLing deer season is just another way to shoot another deer. It use to be more about using hammer guns that looked like what was used in the 17 or 1800s. Same with archery, but I'll not get started on that.
You would think fellows from WV would still hunt deer with some kind of MLers, be it inlines or traditional.

its a hoot to hunt and kill deer with a flint lock, i scout way before season and after season to find good crossings to feeding and bedding areas and still hunt within 35-50 yards of a well traveled path. I go in early and come out late if I can, where I hunt I don,t see many other hunters.

Same thing in Iowa. Muzzle loader only season was originally traditional BP guns only. A small but very dedicated group of hunters participated.
The Iowa DNR wanted more revenue so they opened the season to modern muzzle loaders which have become far superior to any other gun that is legal for deer in the state.
I have nothing against guys that hunt with inlines, I've taken several deer with one myself, all during regular gun seasons which were shotgun or muzzle loader only. Modern front loaders are interesting and impressive but have no place in a muzzle loader only season.
I hope WV keeps it pure.

WV has a blackpowder m/l season in December for sidehammer or inline the season I was alluding to was Jan 10 through the 13th its our first primitive weapons season sidehammers and non compound bows only. I was disappointed to see almost no one but my son and I hunting. Many folks I suspect got rid of there sidehammers and recurve bows.I for one enjoyed hunting mid Jan with the smokepole. By the way it was hunters choice, another chance to get a buck before they shed their horns.

I suspect one of the reasons I didn't hear many shots or see others hunting the Dec. extra doe season or the Jan 10-13th MH season is that in many of our countys including my county Ritchie, the first two weeks which use to be Buck season are now hunters choice. If you buy extra stamps or are a landowner you can fill your freezer pretty quick. A lot of people around here are primarily meat hunters, I have no problem with that, I like the meat too but for me its mainly the hunt. Now if I could just still stand the cold like when I was younger, I could stay in my woods and away from the woodstove in my hunt'en shanty more.
