Has anybody actually shot at Thompson dimension? What were your thoughts and opinions?

I'm looking at a new bolt gun (in short action left hand) and am basically down to a thompson dimension or a Ruger American predator. From what I can tell by handling them in the store, the dimension has a smoother action, better trigger, better ergonomics, and a lower base price. However, the looks are.....polarizing. I don't mind them myself. Form following function. Also, it looks like the platform is basically on life support.
The Ruger is threaded, accurate and has aftermarket support. But the action sounds like a zipper, I'm not a fan of the Glock style trigger and the stock is garbage.

I'm not interested in other options unless you know of a left hand Tikka for around $400.

I have a TC dimension. I think it is a good hunting rifle. The stock is ugly but my POA is right on with the curved stock giving a great cheek weld. Good recoil pad. I have .223 with A bolt and .243 and 7mm-08 with a Bbolt. Three barrels. One rifle. Cool.

I Practice with .223 and hunt deer with the other calibers. I have two kills each with the .243 and 7mm-08.

With Hornady ammo I get 1.5 MOA off the bench.

Negative is that the outer coating of plastic stock will peel off.

TC is dropping from line. Should be bargains. Look at CDNN for $299 on some models.

Get one in .270 and go hunt.

Best of luck.

Ugly but terribly useful. I have one in 30-06 as my elk rifle. Very, very easy to shoot, very, very accurate, very, very comfortable. I would recommend it without reservation.

First up the rifles are accurate and will meet warranty claims without a problem. The rifle, a 300 Win Mag, feeds smoothy. The trigger is crisp running about thee pounds as I got the rifle. The trigger has not been adjusted. The rifle handles very will off the rest. The design does make heavy recoil manageable. Ugly? Maybe, but the design will grow on you with the use. If that stock was on a $3000.00 custom rifles the gun gurus would be falling all over themselves. That peeling stock goop is a disaster and has also shown up on Browning A bolts. T/C replaced the stock on my rifle due to the pealing.

Addendum: That should be Browning X bolt.

I am conflicted about my TC Dimension in 223. It’s the most accurate rifle I own, but also the ugliest. The humpback whale stock is really nice for a scoped rifle and it fits me well, but then I’ll notice the quarter inch of “free float” between the barrel and stock forearm. If you don’t mind carrying around an ugly rifle it’s a great choice.

It’s ashame that no third party started producing barrels for the Dimension, you could switch to any chambering in minutes and never have to worry about headspacing.

I'm not sure about the third party business. There is a liner for the magazine to goes with the OEM barrel. The OEM barrels are made so no headspace measuring is needed. It is necessary to have T/C tools to change out the barrels. YouTube is full of the how-to's for the dimension. Those rifles that are being blown out by CDNN are a real deal. Consider a Dimension barrel alone is $200.00.

my only hangup at this point is caliber. I'm not really interested in any of the left handed calibers. 243, 30-06, 270, 7mm mag, 204, 223. Where's the 7mm-08, the 308? I guess I could buy the gun in 243 since it would have th right bolt face, and try to sell the barrel and buy a barrel in a caliber that I want, but it sounds like a lot of work....

I recently bought a left handed Thompson Center Dimension(conversion combo)from CDNN in 30-06 & 22-250 Rem for $499.99. Today I ordered a barrel LH bolt mag housing and mag in 204 Ruger for a total of $199.99 also from CDNN. I also bought the scope mounting system where the scope stays on a particular barrel and supposedly stays zeroed. Those are on sale from CDNN for $39.99 and worth twice that to me, I now need to find a 223 Rem barrel only, as the bolt mag housing and mags are the same as the 204 ruger. I personally love the stock and if it ain't premium Walnut it just a stock. I will be seeking out a stock marker and having a talk about possibilities, if the price is decent and no premium Walnut in my budget. As a hand loader and an ammo horder I am going all in on this discontinued model as I really like the system TC quality and their accuracy is better than I can extract from them.. I have the I have B&C covered and the A on the way. With one more LOC system the D, I will have a 7mm Rem Mag. CDNN will eventually get the remainder of the barrels that are still stored somewhere out there.
