I go to the forum to try to identify this S & W 38 MEP
, 6 fires,
bbl length 4"
it has a number if series 672xxx in the square butt, the cilinder and the Drum but it does not have letter before 6 digits.
The ID of the internal part is 10774
as recorded made in usa on the side.
nickel model,
but what surprised me most was this apparently gold and ruby cord grip. I did not find anything similar and I do not know if it is a special series or if it was made to order by a gunsmith. Can anyone help me with this. follow the photos to understand what I'm talking about. Thank you in advance.

Something is not right. BPB and BPD shipped in 1993 so BPC probably in same time frame. Problem is the dash 2 was from 1982-86. A dash 2 should have a prefix starting with letter A or some of the early dash 2's had 3 numbers then a K then 3 more numbers as example 262K059 is a dash 2 I have that shipped in 1982
Can you post a picture of the label on end of box?

This going to be a thread for those who are looking for a date of manufacture for their S&W revolvers.

We'd need to know :

a) caliber
b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle)
c) grips shape (round or square)
d) number of shots/cylinder bores
e) type of sights.
f) serial number, and if there is a letter in front of or anywhere near the s/n on the bottom of the grip
g) Model number if it is under the crane.
That number, if it is the s/n, should come from the butt of the grip (or under the barrel or face of the cylinder).

A picture or two is worth A LOT of words in this case...

4 posts to ask a question were really not needed. The first 2 posts have no information at all and why do we need pictures of brown boxes?

M36 SN is J147800 the M28 SN is N190081, the 28 is also marked CPD any idea on which C's PDView attachment 824329
The M36 left S&W in 1973

The M28 is also a 1973 revolver.
As for the CPD markings, my information tells me there was no special order leaving S&W with CPD markings. They were probably bought from a distributor and marked by the armorer. Sorry I couldn't pin it down further.
