I was watching a DVR'd program on the Pursuit Channel -- Gun Digest's Modern Shooter and couldn't believe the on screen text.

It was a show featuring "tactical training" by Mark and Lev Nazi.

Are you kidding me? I'm sure (I hope!) the pronunciation in their ancestral language is nothing like the spelling, but now out of touch are these guys? Respect your heritage and all, but pronunciation doesn't come across in the graphic when the viewer sees MARK NAZI and LEV NAZI on the bottom of the screen, how about taking a "stage name"?

If I'm way off base here, please enlighten me!

Googling "Mark and Lev Nazi" doesn't come up with anything positive, not unexpected, but the top find was a Wikipedia article about the Deutsche Mark and Bulgarian lev currencies.

I’m sorry, what is your rant about? Are you suggesting these people hide their real names or do you think these names are fake and are protesting their choice?

I understand your concern. At the same time, you really shouldn't be surprised because many of the so-called "hunting" or "shooting" programs on cable could really be renamed and lumped together as "rednecks killin' and shootin' stuff". I was just as shocked as you were several years ago when I saw my first of these programs. It certainly wasn't designed or intended to put the best or most positive foot forward on behalf of gun owners. So... I looked a little deeper. It turns out that many of these supposedly "pro-gun" channels and programs are really owned and operated by people who support gun control. In this case, for example, the Pursuit Channel is supposedly controlled by some "good ol' boys" from Glenwood, Alabama. Once again, digging a little deeper and you find that it is really controlled by Anthem Sports & Entertainment which was created by a Canadian and is now managed by Wall Street types that couldn't give a rat's .... about the Second Amendment or future of the U.S. Their focus is on making money from people who are willing to pay to watch violent hedonistic programming which helps to explain their "studios" in New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. In the case of another of the so-call "outdoor networks," one of the major forces behind it is also one of the major financial contributors to the gun control movement. It's sort of like the gun control folks buying into S&W in order to control it. Let's not let it happen.

Was it subtitles?
Subtitles, multiple times throughout the show.

None of the above. Its tone deaf to superimpose NAZI on the bottom of the screen in big letters as part of firearms show independent of the names being real or fake.

I have muted the sound on a tv program to see subtitles appear, and seen them online on YouTube videos, which have hilariously or stupidly misspelled words.
I'm not familiar with the people in the OP's post, and suggest their actual names may be spelled very differently, and the captions either put in by a computer program, which wouldn't attach moral value to such terms, or, if actually done by a human being, was done by a really clueless person, so quickly (to keep up with dialogue) that he gave no thought to what he'd done.
I tend to favor the first theory .... but I suppose anything is possible.

My wife and I went to Hooters some time ago for some wings; the waitress wrote her name on a table napkin - “ISIS”. I asked her if ISIS was her actual name and she replied “yes”. I got the 10 count order with mild sauce, they were delicious.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how someone's last name relates to Pro-gun tone deafness!

How about the skinny guy with no real street skills and a sex crime beef who went to prison with the last name Weiner?(sorryI'mnotsorry). Remember in the military back when drivers and TC's had their names stenciled on the humvee windshield they were assigned to? There was a driver in the 82d named PFC Niggerman on Ft Bragg at the time. And yes, there was a guy in SF named Rambo. He was a CSM, so he didn't get messed with- but still. Sometimes people are born with unfortunate family names.

To clarify, these were not closed caption subtitles, these were text overlay subtitles, like on a news cast, product advertisement, etc. created as part of the show.

CC sub-titles are generally from third parties and do indeed sometimes have interesting typos and misspellings, although usually not as entertaining as "auto-complete" on iPhones :)

Seems tone deafness is common here, no wonder we seem to be losing the hearts and minds battle. UBC seems inevitable in the House right now, wtill the Senate show some guts?
