What was your first gun?

I've seen them labeled at gunshows as Winchester's "Edsel." It's a Winchester Model 55, single-shot automatic, 22 rifle. Mom and Dad gave it to me for my 10th birthday in 1958. I still have it, and even shoot it occasionally.
At 10 years old, my arms were just long enough so that my left hand went under the ejection port in the bottom of the stock. I soon learned that freshly ejected 22 cases are hot!

Glenfield Model 60 when I was 14. Had it til I was 20, shot it out and the smith at Gallensons told me it was cheaper to buy a new one rather than fix it. Gave me fifty off my first 10-22 for it.

First gun was a Winchester model 74 in 22LR built circa 1940s that was given to me by an old relative when I was a kid. First centerfire was a Remington 700 in 30-06. First shotgun was a 870 12 gauge. First handgun was a High Standard Sentinel Deluxe in 22LR. I still own all of them, plus maybe a few others.

First i owned - marlin 60, wish i still had it.
First i bought myself- taurus gaucho in 45 colt , kind of a pos. Still have it, never shoot it.

I got a H &R Topper Jr. in 20 gauge at age ten. The next year I saved my allowance and bought my first handgun, a H &R model 622 revolver for $27.00. I think it wasn't until I was fourteen when I got my first rifle which was a Marlin 99 M1 .22LR. I still have the Marlin but the Topper went towards a 12 gauge Ithaca M37 pump, which I still have. The 622 was traded for a Ruger Standard Model, which in turn was traded for a Browning Nomad. I do still have the Nomad.

The Ruger 10/22 that my grandfather bought from the local hardware in 1975, The first one that I bought was a HRA 686 .22/.22mag I bought in 1983.
Still have both!

First gun I ever fired was a M16A2 given to me by Uncle Sam. Shortly after I fired a M9. First firearm I bought for myself was a Walther P99 40S&W, which I still own.

My dad died when I was 11, and mom was very much opposed to guns in the house, so.......

First actual firearm I ever had was a single shot .22 pistol I made in my garage at 13. Got in a bit of trouble for that one.

First commercial firearm was a Remington 522 Viper a neighbor who was a father figure bought for me when I was 14 in exchange for work around his place. It stayed with him, I'd just go over and use it.

First gun I ever bought myself was a 700 BDL .25-06 on my 18th birthday, followed by a Marlin 1895SS a couple hours later.

First gun that was "mine" (Dad bought it) was a single shot 410...awful, had a big hole in the pattern, couldn't hit anything with it. First "real" gun was a 16 gauge Stevens pump...which I still have. Ugly as sin but still a good shooter. First gun I actually bought was a Mossberg 500 12ga, still have that. But the first gun I ever shot was my grandfather's Wards Western 22 bolt action. That still resides in my safe, still one of the most accurate rifles I own.

Winchester model 67 single shot .22 short, long and long rifle. Received it on October 12, 1967..........

How do I remember?
It was my tenth birthday.:)

BTW, yeah, I still have it.
It was my grandfather's, and I shot my share of ruffed grouse with it. (Only head shots were allowed)

My first that wasn't my dad's or granddad's was a Ruger P95. Always shot right. Rear sight was very tight and wouldn't drift left, so had the idea of removing the rear sight to the right, filing down the base to loosen it, and then drifting left. But neglected to research and realize the firing pin block plunger was captive in the rear sight. Forced the sight out anyway, breaking the plunger and dinging the slide. Got a replacement part, put it back together, and then realized my trouble wasn't the sight but my trigger finger placement.

Learned a lot from that gun, and sometimes wish I had it back, even with ding and bad trigger.

The first gun I bought myself was a Marlin Golden 39A .22 lever-action rifle. It had the old half-cock safety and I could use mixed ammo (S, L, & LR) without it jamming. IIRC, using Shorts, I could load 27 + 1 while the LR would hold 19 + 1. It was also a pretty accurate gun for a lever-action, esp. after I mounted a 2-7X Weaver scope.

20 ga Fox Sterlingworth SXS purchased by my uncle from a friend for $12 in 1960, very used. I was 9 years old. It had a few small dents in barrels which he had a gunsmith remove for $18!! I shot my first squirrel, rabbit and duck with it. I still have it but it is retired. The action is very loose and worn. My uncle carved a new walnut "beavertail" fore end for it. someone had made a splinter fore end for it that I didn't like.

When I was 8, my older brother and I got a single shot H&R 20 ga. (I'd guess a Topper, Jr.) to "share." As I was the younger brother, you can imagine how much I saw that gun from ages 8-10.

Next up was an 870 Wingmaster 20 ga., if memory serves. Still have it. It was either that one, or my 10/22, which I also still have.

A Remington Fieldmaster .22lr pump action. My dad got it for me for for Christmas when he was 15... he picked it because his father (my grandfather) had gotten him a Remington Fieldmaster when he was a kid.

To be honest, I have little or no interest in pump-action .22's. I don't shoot it very much, and would certainly get more use out of the 10/22 he got my younger brother a few years later as my brother's first gun. But I will never sell it.
