I've been thinking of getting a 1911 Long Slide and wondering what people have and what your thoughts are on them. This would be mostly for range work.
Can a standard 1911 be converted by changing bbl, slide and springs?
Agreed. Now that that's out of the way, I don't know how much advantage the extra inch would have, practically, in .45ACP. However, 9mm or 10mm seems to show increased gains with longer barrel length, particularly if you handload. The increased sight radius is a factor, but I would still be looking at 10mm if it were me.
Hey, just what you see, pal.Not as effective as a Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40-watt range.
There is a famous old gunzine picture of a Jim Hoag pistol with four or five different length barrel/slide sets.
Jim Clark started out making longslides by welding on an inch from another slide.
Not as effective as a Phased Plasma Rifle in the 40-watt range.
My thoughts are... Unless as a novelty simply to have a long slide, I don't see much use for them.
As promised, an updated picture.
