Anyone ever have a problem with solvents getting into the gas block and tube just from scrubbing the bore. I have major amounts of solvent blowing back into my upper and lower when i shoot and i dont know how that much can be in the block and tube. Anyone know what causes this. Its doesnt cause any problems, just annoying wiping out the sludge.

Sounds like your cleaning your go too much.

Clean with the gas port up so solvents run out. You can also get into that on the bcg, use a blast of air if you thing you have solvent in it. I never ran into this problem. Normally a saturated patch followed with some clean and I'm done with the barrel.

I use one soaked patch run it through and then brush and i put at least 10 dry patches through. Then 1 with a little oil on it. The gas port is always up.

I sprayed WD 40 up my M16 gas tube. No problem.

Could solvent be collecting in the barrel extension? 20190302_200137.jpg

(Please, no debate on wd40 ty.)

Change solvent and oil, maybe? I use Hoppes #9 bore solvent and Breakfree CLP. Very little CLP.

In 1979 , when i bought the M16, i ask about cleaning. They told me to flush out the crud with WD 40, did it for many years. No. 9 to clean the barrel. CLP for storage.

Worked for me.

You’re overthinking this - worst case, it blows out of the tube on the first shot. Slightly better case, blow it out with compressed air - throw an empty (with primer) in the chamber and blow into the muzzle. I’ve done a lot of upper cleaning by full submersion into an ultrasonic bath - full flood of the gas tube, bore, upper, everything... it’s really not that complicated.

Your problem is not oil or solvent in your gas tube. You just have to much oil on the BCG or in the action. Remove your BCG and wipe it clean. then wipe the inside of the upper. The AR really doesn't need that much oil to run. If shooting a lot, just add a little more oil as it gets dirty.
But if you like to run our gun wet here is a tip that will help. On the back end of the upper where the charging handle fits, clean with denatured alcohol and apply some paste wax. Clean the top side of the charging handle with denatured alcohol were it meets up with the upper. Apply black silicone into the top grove of the charging handle. Place the charging handle in the upper and alloy the silicone to cure. The silicone will stay on the charging handle for a while. it will work as a seal and keep gas out of your face and eyes.

Perhaps soaking your patch with to much solution and running too tight of a patch. That would push solvent into the gas system ?

Won’t produce any problem at all.

The gunsmith I apprenticed under in the late 90’s who taught me to build AR’s for Service Rifle shooters would spray Rem Oil down the gas tube from inside the receiver.... oil in the tube isn’t there long when the rifle starts making noise.
