Taurus offering lifetime warranty

I figured that... That's typically the answer I get, and, IMHO, an important detail that's usually omitted. The issue either happened years ago or with a model that is no longer being made.

Funny that the sentiment is almost never the same when it's another manufacturer. When it comes to other manufacturers, people don't swear off an entire brand or model for life because they got a lemon on a masses produced gun over several years to decades ago. Seems like a phenomenon that affects Taurus the most if not exclusively. "Brought one Taurus, had a problem 30 years, will never buy another Taurus revolver, semiauto, or any of their firearms again... I'll bash them or, at the very least, will bring up the fact that I got a bad gun from them every chance I get as if it was a recent occurrence."

I've been around firearm forums and social media for several years now, and I've heard about worse things happening from Sig, S&W, Ruger, etc, and people don't typically hold the same type of grudges or react in the same manner...

Taurus sells a lot of guns, and does not suffer from the same problems they have had in the past. They are one of the top firearm importers to the U.S. on top of what they manufacture in their U.S. plant. With that said, I'm not hearing about all the current problems Taurus owners are having with their firearms like was the case several years ago. I'm not seeing all the forum and social media post; I'm not hearing much of anything other than old issues and bashing by those who say they'll never buy one... What I have been hearing A LOT about is RECENT major safety issues, design flaws, and/or quality control issues from S&W, Sig, Springfield, Walther, etc...

Yes they do, but I sent them a gun fully assembled and they sent it back taken apart! I also won’t own a Glock after I had a G32 hand grenade on me. I don’t care how popular they are. They (Glock) knew they had a problem with the chambers metallurgy. But they put them out anyway.
I’m not telling anyone else what to do, just sharing my experience. My apologies if this upsets you.. maybe they have gotten better, I certainly hope they have. YMMV.

You didn't upset me, and even though I quoted you, my post wasn't really direct at you specifically. I also wasn't trying to imply that there's anything wrong with people how you or anyone else chooses to spend their money after being burnt. I was just trying to point out how some people will forever hold a grudge against Taurus, but will give other manufacturers a pass. Didn't mean to come off like I was attacking you or anything.

To be honest I really wanted to like Taurus, they have a solid footing in revolvers. I owned a stainless 6”.22mag for 15 years that I loved, until it was stolen by a GF. My new Rock Island is still being broke in.

I worked in adv development engineering for a major corp.
So I know how to look at problems (was my job).
Taurus has had a lot of QC and other issues.
They hired some new guy to address it, was mentioned in some Youtube vid (SHOT show?).
After him, the next guy IIRC said he'd work on the known issue.

It aint make believe.
The shop I worked at kept a spiral ring notebook with all the send backs.

Choose to not believe, I don't care.
If you have one or two and like em, have no probs..........buy a friggin lottery ticket.
I saw failures of various type, across different platforms, purchased from diff distributors over a wide period...........so no, it wasn't like they had a "bad batch".

Now, if you don't want to believe me, that's cool. It's your money.
But I will not be called a liar.

I saw it, lived it and saw many a Taurus fan get soured.
Some folks don't mind saving 75 bucks over buying something else and think it jolly good to send it back two or three times before they get one that is right.
Again, they must think such antics make them special.

Yup, seen bad ones from other makers............but the failures were way higher with Taurus, even when volume adjusted.

.

Maybe Taurus has gotten their act together.
I dunno.
After watching them crank out crap for a few years I wouldn't let my mother in law buy one.

Maybe Taurus is doing better QC wise now.
I dunno.
The Beretta 92 copies seemed to hold up OK.
Nothing Taurus makes interests me.
And even if there was...........I'd not risk it.
Not a gun snob, just like my crap to work.
Rather buy better stuff used, than lesser stuff new.
But not everybody thinks that way.

I’ve had to send in Rugers, Berettas, Sigs, a Glock, S&Ws, Kimbers, and a Colt for repairs. Probably forgetting a few... They can all put out a piece of junk as I’ve unfortunately proven to myself. At this point I judge each individual gun on how it performs. Given my bad luck, I certainly appreciate a good warranty/good customer service. Kudos to Taurus.

I just purchased my first Taurus. It should arrive on Monday. Hopefully I won’t need to test their warranty...

Hmm. Heard horror stories about Taurus customer service. I see that the PT series is excluded. Only Taurus I own is a PT709 slim and it is the only firearm I own that I have had serious issues with. I suppose that is just a coincidence though.

I'll be finding out prolly next week about the lifetime warranty. Just ordered a spectrum .380 for $199 out the door...suppose to ship in two business days. If I don't like the gun, then one of my daughters can have it. I'll put it through a good range test as soon as the weather breaks around here. While the deal was only for laguna blue polymer grip stainless steel, it's no big deal. No one will see the color of your pocket gun anyway.

I have had enough experience with their customer service both as an owner/user and as a salesman in a LGS to be highly skeptical of any "warranty" they offer. I have had verbal agreements with them as to what repairs were to be done and gotten the guns back with something entirely different, and wrongly, done. I've ordered parts that were "in stock and will be shipped today" that were backordered and delivered months later. The Judge was invariably delivered with vastly oversized chamber throats which caused horrible leading. They usually returned the guns with the note "adjusted timing" and did virtually nothing. I have had some good guns come through, mostly large frame models. 94s usually have bad triggers. Trackers are uniformly good, in fact, I have a .17HMR that will group sub MOA on a calm day. Over all, you are taking pot luck with the small frame stuff. Autos, uniformly good.

I also have a Tracker in the .17 HMR caliber. Mine is the discontinued 8 7/8 inch barrel ...it is a tack driver for sure. Things have supposed to have improved at Taurus from my understanding.... I will surely be the judge hands on with this little pocket gun.

I was disheartened to hear it when Taurus dropped their lifetime warranty (around the time they released the "new" G2C and G2S) for a limited 1 year warranty. I've had to use Taurus' warranty just once when I lost a detent for my PT-22's safety catch. First time (and only thankfully) was a long chat that resulted in no help as the CS person wanted me to send in the entire pistol. I tossed it into a drawer for about 6 months before trying again, this time the CS person was willing to talk to their manager and agreed to ship me the part. I was happy when I asked about the price and they told me it would be free. I've been kinda ragging on Taurus in the comment sections of a few sites when they announced a couple of new pistols recently, who wants to be a beta tester for Taurus with only a 1 year warranty? I'm glad they wised up and are going back to a lifetime (if limited and with stipulations) warranty.

Sounds like a Marlin .22 rifle I had sent back because the thing is a 4 MOA hunk of junk. I thought there was something wrong with the rifling as there was massive chatter in the grooves. Got sent back to me saying the "bore was lapped" and the bore looked the same, chatter in grooves still. Wasn't surprised when I got to the range and it shot the same. My guess is that's how the rifle is supposed to shoot and Marlin advertises it as an accurate rifle at $200+... I have a $90 Mossberg Plinkster that outshoots it.

About the large frame Taurus revolvers generally being good, please tell me you haven't had to send too many Judges back? I'm looking at getting a Public Defender.

They are kind of rare. It's basically a PT111 in 32acp. I wish it wasn't DAO, but the trigger isn't too terrible.

I always wondered why One Certain Manufacture (will not name) can also have problems, be sent back for repair etc and yet always gets a free ride from bashing. Not only that but be touted by fans as the best. I was just reading about some of these issues with that manufacturer on this very forum. And of course no one better say a thing about them.

If that manufacturer has good customer service and fixes the issue fast and free, what's the issue? The problem with Taurus is their CS is widely regarded as poor, they're slow as hell, and don't always fix it.

That's as bad as it gets.

If people have had to wait months for Ruger or S&W to send them back a gun and it wasn't fixed, I'd love to hear their story, but I've never heard of those companies having to spend months on warranty work.

So it is not the fact that the gun fails, it is customer service?

It's manufacturing, you can't catch every mistake and you can't inspect every part, unless you want every gun on the market to double in price to have that done.

When a gun clearly has an issue and doesn't get fixed the first time after being sent in for work, then I swear off the company for good... Marlin.
