First, recently, had someone come in to the store saying he was interested in a rifle, wasn't sure if he wanted an AK or an AR. From where I was my computer screen blocked him from the waist down. I started talking about the choice and walking over to the rifle section. As soon as the computer wasn't blocking my line of sight I noticed that he was proudly wearing an ankle monitor.
I stopped and said "What's with the monitor?"
He said "Oh, battery on a LEO". Ummmm bye bye!

Years ago a guy came in and asked what it took to buy a firearm. I said "Well, money, a short waiting period, passing a background check...."
"Background check?"
"Yes, a check for felonies, they don't care about misdemeanors (at least they didn't back then) like you spit on the sidewalk or something."
"What's a felony?"
"Okay, obviously you did something and the list of what you did is probably a lot shorter than the list of what you might have done, why not tell me what you did and I'll tell you if it's a big deal or not?"
"I shot a cop....."
Bye bye....

Seriously, both actually happened.

When is the last time anyone went to a gun store and was impressed by either the fellow clientele or the staff?

And how is a cop shooter out in the world? Already did his 25-to-life?

I went to a new gun store once and was looking at ARs. The clerk didn’t know my familiarity, so treated me like I knew nothing and he knew everything. After listening to his rant, I said, “i could really mow down some people with this...If I take only head shots, and they’re not expecting it...wait...what’s the biggest mag you sell?”

He asked me to leave the store.

Point is, I was purposely ridiculous. People do that when they have zero more craps to give in some situations.

I was in the LGS a couple of weeks ago when a guy came in wanting to purchase a pistol. Seems he pled guily to hitting his wife just to make the charge go away. He said he didn't hit her, they had had an argument and she got mad and called the cops to give him a hard time. The cops only listened to what she had to say and arrested and charged him. I have no idea what actually happened but he left after finding out the bad news about him being unable to buy a firearm.

Went to a shop to look at a Marlin 1894 Cowboy in .45 Colt one day. Another guy was looking at the only one that they had.
He threw it to his shoulder and cycled the action several times, and happily dry fired it every time.
When I looked at the sales guy, expecting him to object, I just saw a big dumb smile on his face.
I left.

Local shop about the size of gander mtn around here has used guns and ammo sitting on the customer side of the counter with no locks on them. Customers handed revolvers that they kept dry firing as the sales guy walked away to answer the phone. I just about crapped myself when some pants falling off his butt, tattooed up kid was walking around the store with a long gun. I left and vowed to never return.

Anybody who's spent time in gun shops has surely witnessed prohibited persons attempting to purchase firearms over the counter.

It is, as noted, sometimes entertaining, sometimes frightening, but always speaks to the intellect of the person (and the fact that they never read either their sentencing or release paperwork nor understand the aspect of that loss of their firearms rights).

I am never surprised any more by this type of thing.

Don't live in a state with a "red flag" law, do you?

Not yet, and probably not something I’d joke about in the current climate. 10 years ago it was amusing. Now, I’d just ask the clerk to silence himself and let me look at my leisure.

Two things are infinite. The universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe.
- Einstein
Stupidity is my one prejudice.
Went to my favorite range back when I lived in NJ in the early 70's. Was a great place on a Wed night because there was often no one but me and the range officer, who I got to know from chit chatting on my midweek visits. One time I went to my usual port and started to set up and Jerry called over "Pick another port tonight, Ed."
"Why?"
"Look up."
Someone had shot the motor that ran the "clothesline" that ran the targets back and forth. Dead straight overhead. Talk about 12 o'clock high.

Those types are out there.......... Anyone who's spent time behind the gun counter can verify that. Friend of mine that owns the LGS has plenty of those stories. He's a retired Sheriffs Deputy who thought he had pretty much seen it all until he opened that shop.
