Already broke my New Years resolution to not buy any firearms this year and I know I need to weed a few out and send a couple down the road that I haven't shot for several years.

Then the new Tikka T1X hit the street and the talk is that it is everything its big brother the T3 is. The biggest complaint I hear is the fin on the bottom of the 10 round magazine and the desire for a flush fitting 4 or 5 round magazine option. Well, I held out until the initial supply ran out and I felt I was safe. Then they suddenly became available again and I succumbed to the call of the sirens and ordered one on line. :notworthy::notworthy:
It is scheduled to be delivered to the FFL tomorrow. And I am actually thinking I might forgo the smallbore silhouette matches just so I can take the little guy to the range and do some ammo testing, though from what I have heard, the T1X shoots everything pretty darn good. Now I need to sort through the scopes I have that are collecting dust and see if there is something appropriate to mount on the new Tikka....

What Skylerbone said. I am thinking my CZ may need competition.

Please add me to the list of d2wing, Skylerbone my CZ need a real contender.
Just a little advice don't proms something you know, you won't do it....
I stopped doing long time ago.

I went through my shop "debris" cabinet (where everything useful but currently unused resides) and came up with a set of new high rings for a 1" tube and an older Nikon 5.5-16.5 x 44 AO scope. Still waiting to hear from my FFL buddy that the Tikka has arrived.... :scrutiny:
(I haven't been this anxious for a new arrival since my last puppy! :D )

Poper will take a few photos. I will have to clear my loading bench first, tho! :what:

Tikka T1X arrived yesterday and I picked it up last night!
Gonna try to get to the range Sunday for some ammo tests to see if it has any preferences. I have some leftover ammo from tests ran through my Sako P04 (very similar rifle at 2x the price). SK rifle match, Eley Tenex, Lapua X-Act, Eley Target, RWS R100, Aguila Rifle Match SV, Aguila Rifle Match HV, and even a little Winchester WB and Browning stuff. The Sako has a definite preference for Eley Target, Eley Tenex and RWS R100. It will be interesting to see what the Tikka's preferences are!

I'm thinking about buying one myself, like I really need another .22LR or .17 HMR.

The difference between us is that, before shooting it, I'd take it apart, pillar-bed it, tune the trigger, and check/adjust the firing pin nose, etc. If after that, if it didn't shoot MOA or better with at least one kind of ammo, I'd get rid of it.

I wanna see how it will perform "straight out of the box". Then I will adjust the trigger to 2 lbs.. Doubt I will mess with the bedding unless it shows a proclivity to wander.

The guys on Rimfire Central have lots of good things to say about the T1X. I just gotta see for myself. :scrutiny:

UPDATE!
As above, I received my T1X Thursday night. Saturday (yesterday) I had time to clean it and mount the scope and rings. The rings are Sports Match UK for air rifle and the scope is Nikon Monarch 5.5-15.5x44 AO.

Today was range day! I had 12 different ammos but only took 10 with me to the range leaving the Browning and Federal behind. All groups are 10 round groups fired from a bench rest at 50 yards. As you can see, the overall winner was the Lapua X-Act, but at nearly $30 for a box of 50, I think I will stick with the Eley Target or RWS Rifle Match!
The surprise of the day was the Aguila Rifle Match. Certainly not the consistency of the Lapua or RWS Rifle Match, but at $4 per box versus RWS Rifle Match at $10 and Lapua X-Act, I have no problem using Aguila for practice and plinking!
The Eley Target was nice to see printing a nice group. It shoots very well in my Sako P04 silhouette rifle and is my ammo for the animals out to the Turkeys. At the Rams I use RWS R100 in that gun.

I must say, I am very impressed with this little Tikka! Fed the right ammo, it is every bit as accurate as my Sako, and at half the price! In all, I fired 110 rounds throught the little rifle with zero failures to fire and zero failures to eject. I had one problem with a round not wanting to feed and I was able to trace that back to round #6 in the magazine that somehow was inserted into the magazine a little short and too vertical. When cleared and reloaded correctly, everything ran smooth. I am sure the mis-loaded round was operator error.
I found the bolt operated very smoothly without any binding and the ejector consistently tossed fire cases about 6 or 8 inches clear of the action. The trigger was consistent and broke cleanly with a minimum of creep, just like all of the Bigger Brother Tikkas I have in .270 Win., 6.5x55 and .30-06. The new style stock is, IMHO, an improvement over the Tikka T3 Lite version. There is something about the new stock that just feels better in the area of the pistol grip. I can't be sure if the geometry has changed or if it is just the new grip texture. Whatever the difference is, I like it.

I do have 2 minor gripes, though. 1) I do not like the looks of the extended magazine; and 2) the length of pull is a little short for the average adult. I am sure it will be just fine for a junior shooter between 8 - 14 years old or so.

Overall: An excellent shooter for what I feel is a reasonable price. Yes, I would buy it again!

Sigh....why did I open this thread. NO I do NOT need another 22....................................

Poper, that gun might do very well with RWS Target Rifle also, which means you could save a bit of money compared to RWS Rifle Match.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that can't stick to my "no more guns" vows. I said back around Christmas that I wasn't buying any more guns. The I ran into a G2 Contender with a 22 LR match barrel and it came home with me and I just had to add a 17 HMR barrel for it. Then my LGS finally got in a Ruger Precision Rimfire which I hadn't run across in my infrequent gunshop visits and I checked it out. Now I have a RPR and apparently no will power at all when it comes to buying new guns.

I did dig out and sell five different guns that have just been gathering dust for quite some time so my billfold didn't take a hit for the new members of my firearm family.

That Tikka is a nice looking and from the targets posted a nice shooting rifle. I haven't seen one in the flesh yet.

Purty-looking gun there!

I think I will give it a try. The Eley Target does pretty well, so I would like to find out if the RWS target will do as well or even better.

Alas, my wife and I are beginning the process of moving into a different home as our offer was accepted on another one. All shooting activities will be suspended until the relocation is complete and I am able to set up a new loading room....:(
