Decibullz Molded Earplugs

The “sonic” style ear plugs I have tried never worked out well for me.

I tried some off the shelf versions and a pair made by my ENT Dr. The solid ones are a lot better but block out everything, electric muffs are great for hunting especially if you already have hearing loss or could benefit from hearing better than you actually can.

Sometimes I use both, so I am double plugged and I can’t hurt my hearing further but can still hear the buzzer go off. If I am around compensated rifles, that is generally the case.

I tried them. They fell out the first time I tried them and I ran over one with the lawnmower. Company was unresponsive, though they had no reason to give me another one ... other than trying to produce a satisfied customer. They weren’t that effective, either vs. the traditional roll-it-between-your-fingers foam plugs.

I got a pair. The fitting part isn't easy (where you boil them to soften the plastic before inserting them into the outer ear and shaping). It took me 4-5 tries. They do fit and are easy to take in and out. I am not convinced they work any better than foam ear plugs, but I use them because I paid $20 for them. What I ended up doing was modifying a pair of foam earplugs (shortened) that go in first followed by the Decibullz (which I stuffed full of foam material as well) and finally put my muffs over those. And you know what? My ears still ring after I'm done shooting! So, you know, do what you can. I'm not sure I'd recommend Decibullz (I got mine because I saw LuckyGunner endorse them in a blog post).

One thing to point out, they do have multiple offerings. One is $20 and designed for general usage and another is $75 that is designed for firearms. Once I figured that out it seemed like a much lesser of a deal. Oddly Every time I see them in stock at a sporting goods store they only have the cheaper ones so I'm sure that isn't helping the opinions of this product as I'm sure a bunch of people are using them for something they aren't designed for.

Nothing is as well formed to the shape of the ear canal as foam plugs. The hard plastic one simply do not work for me. The noise suppression is atrocious. Just relating my experience. Foam plugs are the best. Putting electronic muffs over them just makes them better.
