sell your 6.5cm and get the newest kid on the block, it was only as matter of time before time marched on and will leave the 6.5 cm(not even old enough to shave) in the past with the .270 and older cartiges.

Common now, you know that 6mm bullets gonna bounce off any decent deer!
And that anemic little cartridge? Real men shoot full length short actions!

I kinda have a fascination with the shorter, short action cartridges. I kinda wish there was a 2.5-2.7" action available.
Dasher still appeals to me more....I like it's name lol.

Few years ago at a long range comp. I met a guy that had a custom round that he designed. I can't remember what he called it but it was a shortened 6.5x55 with a .400 length neck and he was using Lapua 6.5 Swede brass as the parent. With a 26" barrel he claimed almost 3000fps with the 142gr SMK and H1000. I had no real way to verify his claim I do know he was beating the 6mm Dashers and 6mm Creedmoors to 1350 yards though. He won the competition too.

6 Dasher and BRA predate the 6.5 creed by a long shot. Various 6 and 6.5’s are going to hold these titles for a long time, and the 6.5 creed never really was a contender in that particular game.

Old news anyway, we already have a thread on the new US record, and we certainly have enough 6.5 creed bashing threads. The 6.5’s not in trouble, the 6mm’s aren’t new kids on the block. Suck your sour grapes somewhere else...

There's exactly zero change of any 6mm benchrest cartridge displacing the Creedmoor and everyone knows it. Sour grapes is exactly right.
But wasn’t that what the Creedmoor was originally? A modified, commercially available benchrest round. Displacing it in what context? If it’s for 1,000 yard 5 shot groups, I think the OP kinda proved it has been displaced....for now.

It didn’t hold the previous 1000yr 5 shot IBS record, so explain, please, how it was displaced in the OP’s story?

Too many folks assume the 6.5 creed has held records or even that it has been viable in competition. The only place it has really shined has been Precision Rifle competition - where it was displaced by 6mm’s about 3 years ago, so again - old news...

This may be the new... new... LR Elk (and Brown Bear?) round.

Are you really suggesting this new IBS record makes you think a 6mmBRA is an elk cartridge?

Seems to be a pretty sharp diversion from the OP’s topic, no? Since we’re talking Benchrest records now, not hunting. Keep your silliness in your own silly thread.

Wasn't the last new LR Elk (and Brown Bear?) round a benchrest wonderkind as well?

(The high twist rates must scare'em to death.)

:D

It was actually the brainchild of Dennis Demille, a highpower rifle competitor. He must have taken some time off from being grumpy for the benefit of his failing sport. ;)

bitter, you must be kidding. I own only one .270, but I own three .260 rem,s, six Swedish army 6.5x55 rifles and two other 6.5x55,s, a cz-550 and a rem 700 classic. I think your thin skinned and believe what you post and are pissed others don,t agree with you. MOD,S delete this thread, it will not make me mad. I forgot to add I do own a rem 40x in 6x47 that I have not shot in six or seven years.

have I hurt some ones feelings? so the 6mm what ever is only good for target and not hunting? you are using the same argument the 270 boys use against the 6.5cm. you would think I beat some ones pet dog.

Not even remotely close to what I said. I asked GR if he REALLY thought the fact a 6BRA earning yet another record should really mean it’s a good, let alone even viable long range elk cartridge.

The 6mm BR of the article and it’s blown out progeny, the Dasher, BRX, BRA/W are fantastic varmint, coyote, and deer cartridges. But a 25-30grn cartridge pushing 80-105grn 6mm pills just aren’t long range elk cartridges.

But the 6 BR case has been a long ways ahead of the 6.5 creed in competition - with the exception of Precision Rifle competition - since before the 6.5 creed was born, and has even overtaken the creed in its own game, as only 3 of the top 125 in the PRS used a 6.5 creed last season, compared to 54 out of the top 125 shooters using BR based cartridges.

The 6.5 creedmoor really hasn’t sustained any success at the front of any competition. Well, except for being the highest selling rifle chambering for the last handful of years.
