In a short sentence or two what is the cartridge you’ve got to try right now?

For me it’s the 358 Yeti. A round between 35 Remington and 358 Winchester that uses 308 parent brass and fits in an AR15?!? Yes please! I missed them going out of stock in November and I can’t wait to give it a try. Will be my 0-150 yards woods deer thumper.

The one that goes bang.

Actually I have acquired the vast majority of the stuff to do a semi-scratch build. I will be building everything except hammer and barrel. Part of the material already has the layout marked on it and it is ready for the mill... one of these days I will make chips. I actually have the stuff to make 3 of them. 1 as a throwback to the original, one as a modernized rendition of the original, and one exactly how I want it in the caliber I want it in. The first 2 will be rimfire. The next, will be peppy...assuming the first 2 work out. So I guess I will say 22 rimfire as I’m dying to get my frame cut. That frame will hopefully be useful for at least 2 of the barrels and if so I will try to make a modular grip frame setup.

Well, I fear I seriously lack originality. I'm growing more and more curious about a 6.5 Creedmoor hunting bolt action rifle, in wood and blue to make things even worst. It is probably the last thing I need, that ground being covered and even overlapped by what I already own. I have an honest job, but I live on a limited budget. To make sense, it would have to be in a target rifle. To make sense, it would also have to be after I would have sold rifles I don't want to sell. I doesn't make sense at all. It just itches, and itches... That cartridge has been so discussed here and there, it is becoming impossible to ignore it. You know, I can think about a 45-70 Government single shot Henry rifle, how it would be cool, a great deer stopper and everything, and then, rationalize and tell myself I don't need that, I have no specific use for that, I don't enjoy recoil that much, it would cost a fortune to shoot at the range, etc. I just can't seem to do the same with the 6.5 Creedmoor. It is discussed everywhere I read about guns. It is in quite a few discussions at the range (guys are still pretty hooked on .308 Win. and 300 Win. Mag. around here). It is ubiquitous here on THR. I have read very little negative about it. It is just like cigarettes (recently quit, difficult last month or so), 6.5 Creedmoor is everywhere!

This week it’s 300 WSM driving 215 grainers for busting through the wind but the desire has already starting to fade.

I have been interested in this resurgence of the .25 cal now that there’s an outfit making custom bullets for it. 25x47 sounds intriguing

300 blackout for me.

It’s just a versatile cartridge for a reloader. I’ve loaded from 110g bullets up to 220g, however I find the 150-190 ish weight range to be fairly useless. I prefer 125g for supers and 220s for subs.

.45 LC, wanting to play around with heavies suppressed out of a win94. I’m thinking 300gr Mag XTP’s at about 1050 fps

Back on my longtime obsession, the 30-40. Having recently acquired a Miroku made 'Browning ' 1895 in 30-40, I've been re-reading Ken Waters "Pet Loads" article on the exact same rifle and putting together test loads.

The 1895 rounds out my stable: a Ruger No. 3, a Krag, and now an 1895. If only there was an AR 10 in 30-40, or maybe a PKM!

I have a nice 1895 krag sporter. I would someday like to get a modern 1885 Winchester in 30-40 AI

Obsessed? None. I love them all. I’m interested in the 350 Legend and now the 358 Yeti. There was another I heard of awhile back that was basically a straight walked .223 case that shot 35 cal bullets. But I don’t remember much more about it. Or was it a 30 cal? Wes the 300 Hammer’s parent case a .223?

You know what? I think I might change my answer. I absolutely dream of having a nicely sporterized 30-40 Krag.

I have two this week. 458 socom, due to recent success loading it, and 221 fireball. I desperately want a lightweight sporter bolt gun in the fireball. 223 would be so much easier to get ahold of, but that efficient grandpa to the 300 blk just calls to me... If only CZ would make another batch of them...
