Beretta 92X -- I need one

It's interesting. The safety is back to the original, Italian, pre-DoD M9 location (where it should always have been). Looks like it's intended to go toe-to-toe with the CZ Shadow/Shadow 2, the Tanfoglio Stock II/III, and other game/performance oriented DA/SA guns. Odd, downward angle on that beavertail, though... looks like it would push the hand down too much.

Thoughts? My first thought is holy crap that’s one ugly Beretta.

Compared to other gamer guns though it’s not too bad. If that safety made it to other models I’d at least consider getting one.

Now if I can store it in my thigh like Robocop, I'd be all set.

To me, that pistol is "ugly in a good way". I like it.

You realize Taurus was licensing/copying the Beretta of the time, right? They used to have frame mounted safeties.

Yes, I'm aware that Beretta deviated from the frame mounted safety long ago, that Taurus has been eating their lunch as far as that goes for decades, and now Beretta has come around again. Good for Beretta.

Word is that it will make its debut in April at the NRA show. Someone on another forum also had a link to a sight with it listed (it is not available yet) for $1299

Only thing this gun has going for it over the 92FS is that they finally, after 35 years, got the safety in the right place. However, at $1300...more than twice the cost of the 92FS?? No thanks. I'd pay $100 more for the safety in the right place, but not $700 more.

It’s not just the safety. It’s the steel frame and the other stuff. And that’s about the price-point of the other performance/competition oriented DA/SA guns these days.

It's probably not my cup of tea, but considering all the features on this gun, and compared to all the other high end Beretta's that have circulated over the years, this one is certainly in the proper price ballpark.

Interesting that they put an undercut in front of the trigger guard, but got rid of the hooked trigger guard. Woulda thought those two things would go hand-in-hand.

Support hand index finger on the front of the trigger guard has been out of favor for at least 20 years.

A high grip probably will never go out of style.

It sorta matches the way the newer 92A1 frame is in that area

Does the frame mounted safety do away with the slide mounted safety/decocker? Usually those slide mounted safeties are also decockers. I don't know a lot about the 92. I had one years ago but I don't recall much about it except it was big and never failed to deliver.

It's nice to see more steel framed pistols coming out, like this one and the Walther Q5 Match steel frame, but I just don't like forward cocking serrations and rails. If I'm buying an all steel pistol, I want the classic look of something like the S&W 845, S&W 952, SIG P210, or even the first generation of the SIG Sauer P226S X-5 (though it has the forward cocking serrations).
