I am about to ring out the 338 Federal. Looks like something that I could use up close and personal. Federal Fusion shows a 200gr at 2700fps, but I have my doubts. I think that 2500fps would be more realistic. The chrono will tell.
Re barreling a short action savage would be the easiest way. I hadn't heard about the ruger american, that looks really tempting.
Yeah, nother medium bore in my favorite budget rifle? Ruger, why must you temp me so?Re barreling a short action savage would be the easiest way. I hadn't heard about the ruger american, that looks really tempting.
If only I had the funding to match my wants lol, then I'd want less....well probably not.I’m full of wants
What's your twist rate? Mines a 1-10 so I ended up shooting the 85 vmax, but 95 Berger's would be a great bullet for the cartridge.6 x 47 (222 mag case) project built on a Sako A1 action just needing to load up and test
Well truth be told, I built this rifle 30 years ago and got as far as fire forming brass when life got in the way. If memory serves I think it's 1-10 also, but, could be 1-12. It is in the front of the safe now and I'm just waiting for the weather to break. What's your twist rate? Great cartridge. I have one built on a Remington 660. Speaks with authority on both ends. But light, fast and short.New week, new cartridge. 458 by 2" aka the 458 American.
Lol, well ive got a decent spread of bullets that should work with it if you want any to try.Well truth be told, I built this rifle 30 years ago and got as far as fire forming brass when life got in the way. No more excuses, I'm now retired.
Thanks, I will more than likely bug you for some load info later this spring. One problem I have is the A1 action size and the 6 x 47, on the 222 mag case and longer bullets. The COL is such that I could not eject a loaded round as it would not quite clear the action/ chamber bridge. I opened it up some and that's when life happened, and it got stuck back in the safe. So if memory servers me, I bought some bullets in the 80-85 grain range. I'm not a fan of deep seating, just a phobia I have. I also picked up light weight 58, 65, 70 grain slugs to try.Lol, well ive got a decent spread of bullets that should work with it if you want any to try.
Went out to the shop and took inventory. Hornaday 58, 65,70, 75, & 87 grain, Berger 70 gr, Speer 80 gr, Remington 80 gr and a box of Sierra 85 gr. And a box of Nosler 55 gr.Lol, well ive got a decent spread of bullets that should work with it if you want any to try.
Currently I am thinking (but not obsessing), about the .35 Whelen.
Hah that's nearly the exact list I have, beside some 100gr spitzers, and no remWent out to the shop and took inventory. Hornaday 58, 65,70, 75, & 87 grain, Berger 70 gr, Speer 80 gr, Remington 80 gr and a box of Sierra 85 gr. And a box of Nosler 55 gr.
That should keep me busy for a while. The thing is going to be COL.
