Does anyone here have any actual experience with using the LEE bullet sizer/lubricator? I'm thinking about a "dedicated" set-up to size and lube .45 Colt 250 grain semi-wadcutter hard cast bullets.
Just wondering about the LEE sizer and what one could expect for use and end product.

Thanks,

Dennis

Sure have; Me and Lee sizing equipment go waaay back. First was a .309" pan lube and use a hammer sizer, then to a lot of the press mounted dies using Liquid ALOX. Of the many Lee products I have used over a lot of years, I think their press mounted sizer kits do a very good/best job relative to cost. Easy to use, effectively size very quickly, LLA lube does a very good job for a lot of situations.

Attached is the old pan lube sizer and lube kit I bought, circa 1982-83... Sure like the newer Lee system better. Good luck.

It worked good for me way cheaper than a rcbs lubrisizer.
I powder coat now and use the dies to size after coating.

Tried the Lee, Way too messy for me, went with the RCBS, much Happier PLUS, I can crimp Gas Checks that I could not accomplish with the Lee Setup.

Hey this thing works great! I wanted to have those nice cast bullets with the pretty lube ring and got one. I was so happy when I got everything tuned in that I casted, sized and lubed some 3,000 45's. .9's are next, 357's are already cast. The thing takes a little to tune but afterward it works very well. I'd buy it again.

Galil5.56, HAHAHA, I have the same kit. It was messy to use but works well until you can afford better equpt. hdbiker

Afternoon DGod. I crimp gas checks onto my .44 cal, and .30 cal bullets; both Lyman and actual 'crimp-on' Hornady GC's with my press mounted Lee sizers... Even the ancient kit shown can do it, but it's not exactly convenient... Have to load the bullet into the top of die base down with a GC applied, hammer the nose to start, add the punch to the nose and hammer/push through.

Yeah, not exactly hi-volume production, but when you are 16 it seemed magical making thousands of them over time... If that makes sense?

Hallelujah brother... I gave up using it so long ago, the remaining Lee 150's are oxidized... Looks like Gettysburg battlefield pick-ups. Just the same it brought me into an entirely new world as a kid, and I cherish it just as it is, as I'm sure you do.

If you are talking the die used in a single stage press with liquid Alox, yes I have used them and still do, differently though.

I bought out all the reloading stuff a guy had, and it included 10 5pound coffee cans full of cast 148gr DEWC that were NOT lubed. :what:
Also in that stuff was a Lyman Lube/Sizer PRESS, something I found complicated to use, so I bought/used Lee liquid Alox and push thru dies instead.
I was single stage loading back then and the Alox was left on both the bullet base and nose after being pushed thru the sizer, so I would wipe the base across a rag before placing it into the case for seating, when loading.
The Alox on the bullet nose tended to collect in the seating die and would shorten the OAL as it built-up, unless it was cleaned out regularly.

Today I buy 0.0358" coated bullets and use the Lee push thru sizers for use for 9mm (no liquid Alox) :uhoh:.
If you are casting bullets, you might look into shaken bake powder coating rather than traditional wax type lube.
The only additional equipment you will need is a cheap toaster oven.
Here's a gazillion posts on the subject:

good luck,
:D

I bought one for 45 colt. Switched to NOE body die and bushings in any size you want. Bushings around $7.00 each. Lee red top will still catch them all.
