I heard a few days ago the NRA is in dire financial straights???

Doesn't seem possible??? I always thought they had DEEP pockets!

Is this just a clever tactic to raise funds? If not, what led to this?

Is a balance sheet available? What goes out, what's coming in? If much more going out than coming in, why?

More stick their hands in our pockets scams! I used to be for them but how they change the dues every other month and constantly send me junk mail about how someone is trying to take my guns just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

Technically, yes. Practically speaking, no. This gets into accrual vs cash basis accounting.

My understanding is that they have an enormous amount of pre-paid dues. For example, if you're in year 2 of a 5 year membership, years 3, 4, and 5 are technically Unearned Revenue. In the accounting/financial world, these are liabilities, not assets - the company can't claim the revenue and move it to the other side of the balance sheet until it has delivered the service. That's another reason they like donations - they are not tied to a timeline.

With a membership model (as opposed to if the company was delivering a service such as cutting your grass) there is very little direct cost (bulk mailing aside) meaning that the majority of the revenue can go to the indirect costs which are what we want the NRA to be doing anyway (lobbying for example).

So, that means this is a talking point for the anti's to say that they're winning and for the NRA to ask for more money, while effectively the NRA still has a pool of cash and is not really at risk of default or failing to meet its financial obligations. It's not a good position for then to be in, but I think the reporting has made it seem like a bigger issue than it is.

Wayne recently sent me a letter saying the NRA is almost finished unless I send money. I got a nice chuckle and in the trash it went. I’d like to see how much he donates from his $5M salary back to the NRA.

Good bye NRA and good riddance if they’re really going out.

If they fold, who/what will replace them? They must do some good since they drive anti-gunners nuts. I've donated here and there, hoping it benefits all of us. Every gun-loving one of us needs to find some way to contribute to the cause. Donate, vote, campaign, volunteer to teach gun safety, hunt, shoot, etc....anything to further our cause.

Yes, just in case you missed the last two years or so, Cuomo, Bloomberg, Soros, Steyer and some of the other pet billionairs on the left are trying to bankrupt the NRA. They view the NRA not only as an enemy of the people, but also parlty responsible for President Trump being in the White House today. So.... in order to prevent that from happening again in 2020, the lunatic leftists and their pet billioniars have been filing lawsuit after lawsuit again the NRA, instigating boycots against companies that do business with the NRA, and even in some areas such as the Peoples Republic of California, requiring all companies that have any ties to the NRA to reveal those ties when in volved in state business. So.... you can expect that the attacks on the NRA will escualte as the date of the election approaches, with the left hoping that even if they fail to bankrupt and destroy the NRA by then, the cost to the NRA will so badly damage the financial standing of the organization as to prevent it from supporting President Trump to the extent it did in 2016. Pretty simple strategy, but then they are leftists... and sadly it's working.

Chuck Michel of CRPA (CA state arm of NRA) posted for various legal battles fought in CA last year, NRA spent more on legal fees than they took in donations/contributions (I believe he meant for the state). Thankfully we recently got to celebrate a historic and monumental win with judge Benitez ruling on 3/29/19 that legalized previously purchased large capacity magazine (LCM) repair kits and allowed CA gun owners a week to purchase new legal LCM before stay went into effect on 4/5/19 at 5:00 PM.

CRPA is currently pursuing 17 active legal battles and will benefit from additional donations/contributions - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/happy-days-in-ca.849757/page-3#post-11098789

Don't think anti-gun crowd is on a war path? Here's a loooong list of new bills in the works to take more gun rights away - https://crpa.org/news/legislation/crpa-legislative-affairs-february-2019/

And as we have seen in past decades, what happens in CA seems to spread to other states.

Do not be mistaken, we are at war with the anti-gun crowd whose ultimate goal is gun ban. It's time for all the gun owners from all walks to come together to mount a D-Day like counter-attack on the anti-gun crowd. In addition to voting out anti-gun law makers and voting in pro-gun law makers, donations/contributions to pro-gun organizations like CRPA/NRA will pay for legal battles. Thankfully, president Trump has been nominating and getting pro-2A federal judges confirmed to district and circuit courts in addition to placing justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS to improve our odds of winning 2A cases to reverse the decades of erosion to our gun rights. Believe me, stars and planets are aligning for inevitable judicial showdown and we must get as many 2A cases ruled in our favor at district/circuit courts and the SCOTUS.

If you have reservations about donating to NRA, simply donate to other pro-gun organizations actively fighting for our 2A.

Approach this time and your donations/contributions as war effort for a war that we must win to preserve 2A rights for our children and our grandchildren.
