I've recently started loading 9mm Major*. I got a batch of RMR's 124 JHP's to experiment with. So far, I am impressed. Here are some of my observations:
  • The weight tolerance on these is tight. Combine these projectiles with sorted-headstamp brass of similarly tight weight specs (such as Starline), and a QC weighing of completed rounds would detect a no-charge squib. That's nice.
  • They're clean to handle. I have little patience for projectiles that leave lead dust smudges on my hands. These don't. And, like most/all JHP's, their base has no exposed lead, so I'm not getting atomized lead upward through my compensator.
  • The ogive/profile is quite rounded. It feeds well, although it's portly enough to require some care with OAL setting to make sure you don't have ogive/throat interference issues with a tight-chambered gun.
  • These things do not mind being run hard! I have been driving them at 1370-1400 fps and see no indications that they are having any trouble. Velocity spreads are staying tight, I'm not getting any copper fouling to speak of, and they're printing groups as small as I am capable of generating.
I'm using these for sporting purposes, so I haven't considered any kind of terminal ballistics performance of these projectiles. But for my purposes, I like them enough that I'm going to order a few thousand more.

*For those unfamiliar, this is 9mm loaded up well past SAAMI specs for use in specialized USPSA/IPSC race guns with gunsmith-fit barrels and compensators that delay unlocking.

I recently started loading RMR's 124 gr JHP (MPR). Buying in bulk and with a discount code the cost isn't all that much more than the cast coated I have been using.

I reload Speer 124 gr Gold Dots as well. The RMR's are every bit as nice as the Gold Dots and considerably cheaper. The Gold Dots may perform better in ballistic gel. I would be interested to know.

I really like the MPRs, good bullet, good price, great company.

I've shot a few into some water jugs, and they expand impressively as well.

I'll eventually get around to doing that just for curiosity's sake. Will be interesting to see whether they hold up to impact with fluids at 1350+fps.

JHP bullets have been used for .357 Magnum for a long time.

To me, 9mm Major pushing 124 gr bullet to 1450+ fps is doing just that.
