I have a chance to purchase a CZ 75 compact...with safety version.

Is $550 brand new a fair price?

What has been your experience in terms of reliability (for home defense with this pistol?)

I own and carry a CZ PCR which is an alloy framed version of the CZ 75 compact (the one in question would be a steel frame. Mine has the decocker, but has been flawless since the beginning, I have about 2,500 rounds through it. They are great guns, and would be a suitable firearm for home defense.

The Mec-Gar magazines for the compact are very nice magazines as well at a cheaper price than OEM, in which I believe Mec-Gar makes for CZ.

As far as price, I've seen them in my area for $450-500 selling used. I would say that you should have some wiggle room to haggle down, but it would be worth the $550, they are great guns. New one can find these online for $500-550.

What does it come with? Just the firearm, box, papers and the two magazines?

Fair. Price

Great weapon, have not had any problems. I have 75 D pcr no safety DA/SA absolutely love it. Depending on my mood I carry colt officers 45 or sig 938 or my cz pcr.

I shoot the colt and pcr about the same. Sig not as easy to shoot well for size. Got to be little more careful with the sig.

They seem to have a good reputation. I'd prefer the safety version (which you're looking at), since I'd convert it to single action if I were to buy one. I wish they still made them in .40 S&W.

Price is okay (my last one bought late last year was $519). Considered a little on the heavy side for its size, the Compact is nevertheless a great pistol. Mine has been 100% reliable with every type of ammo I've used, and displays well above-average accuracy. Frankly, I've always awarded the (non-railed) CZ-75 and 75C major cool points for their looks. Great design, worthy pistol (and now you can get 15-round mags for it as well).

I've had a couple of 75B Compacts. The (capital C) Compact is the all-steel version with safety. It's heavy for its size, especially when compared to the other compact CZ models (all of which have alloy frames (the newer ones have forged alloy frames, while some of the older ones (like the PCR) havecast alloy frames -- but they're all durable. (I found the difference between the size and weight of the Compact not great enough to justify NOT carrying the full-size gun, but I don't like decockers, so I went that way.)

Look at the polymer-framed CZ P-07, too -- which lets you change from decocker to safety (and back) if you decide to make thte change.

The compact models are all reliable, and loved by their owners -- but if the gun being discussed is used the price is arguably too much, as only the original owner has the warranty. (While you're not likely to ever need the warranty, the price cited is too close to a new gun price to not get a new one.)

I have the exact same firearm. So does my son-in-law and one of my sons. It is an excellent choice. The price is good enough for the old saying "a bird in hand..."

This was brand new. Ok... just impulsive I guess. After the initial post, I went ahead with the sale. Brand new from my LGS. It came with box, paperwork, two mags. Yes, I just gave it a test drive. 100 rounds of NATO 9mm and some HST jhp. 100 percent. No issues. Man. Was I impressed with my very first CZ.

I have (2) PCR's. A PCR is my carry gun. Both with decockers. CZ's run very well. I certainly trust mine for a carry gun.
