I've owned High Powers, Semi Premium 1911's , S & W M & P's and Glocks. I've shot Sig 229's, CZ 75s, and various HK's including a the personal favorite P7. For years I was a 1911 guy convinced by gun porn and the fine shooting qualities of the Kimbers I owned (I know people knock them but mine were accurate and reliable). I had 5" Custom shop Eclipse with a Dawson light rail in my night stand and carried a CDP 4". They were tack drivers, pretty and I lusted for more. My first handgun was a Glock 23 Gen 1 which I sold when I abandoned 40 cal for .45. But along with my Kimbers I picked up a Glock 19 with a re-worked trigger that was customized a bit before our last administrations first term because I wanted a hi-cap 9 in the quiver in case another mag ban was passed.
Anyway like many others I ran into some financial trouble during the financial meltdown, had to sell the 5" Kimber and one other thing I began to notice along the way was I shot the Glock 19 as good as my Kimbers. In drill after the Glock performed comparably. At the time better 9mm HP ammo was developed, and I was struggling financially so I sold the other Kimbers and became a Glock guy, I must admit I love my Glocks, they work, require far less investment in time and energy for cleaning, have a great aftermarket, and do what I need a gun to do which is respond if I need to deal with a bad guy. If I ever got some money I might buy another 1911 or High Power, but they would be safe queens the Glock stays on the belt. Just picked up a 19x for my nightstand gun, and have a 30SF I'm switching to 10mm for a Bear/woods gun. For me Glock is it.
