Wal-Mart Ammo Clearance

Then that Sporting Goods Mgr. is not doing their job. It is normal for ammo to be discounted out, such as Turkey loads after season, etc. Smart Mgrs. also discount out some excess inventory before Annual inventory, (different times for different Stores/Markets/Divisions) so unless the Store Mgr. doesn't allow the Dept. Mgrs. much for discount dollars, they should be discounting something with regularity.

I buy a 10 pack or two of 2 3/4" Turkey 5's every spring after the season when they clearance them out, they are great late season pheasant shells.

I only found out that they were on sale when the associate scanned them at the register.

I was going to ask to look at their book to see what guns they have in stock but it was a long day at that point and didn't want another hassle

entropy: The young, long-legged ladies wearing full-length yoga pants, to me, do just fine with their "fashion statements".

As for guns in this topic (iaw THR's "Flight Ops. Manual" policies), wish we had some visible "yoga ladies" at the shooting club. Thanks for the reminder to check WalMart now and then. Academy never processed my 'credit card' before I spent about $500 on ammo. They never processed it.
Even though Academy has good enough selections of my types: .22, .380, 9mm and 7.62x39, WalMart will be checked much more often, and is a bit closer.

I stopped by Walmart Saturday, Winchester train and defend is on sale here too but still a good bit more expensive than you saw. I think $11 for 9mm T and about the same for 20 rounds of HP.

Yes, but you are failing to appreciate the sheer entertainment value of a trip to Wal-Mart ... think, Star Wars Bar Scene ... :)

EDIT: Correct spelling OOPS
Having moved last year from Cali to AZ I am coming to the conclusion that not all Walmarts are created equal. The one near my old house was a lot like shopping in Tijuana except not as nice and with beyond-ridiculous checkout lines, and even FINDING an employee was really hard... and the stupidest part, they would hire ones who weren't fluent in either English or Spanish despite a probably 75% Hispanic customer base (I know this because I got one one time). The one where I live now is fantastic, you can buy almost anything there and the employees are enthusiastic and knowledgable, I especially like the produce, and they have self-checkout with scanners that actually work reliably, it's really fast. The one in the next town over is less nice, but nowhere near what I experienced in Cali.

Now that I thankfully live in a free country I will have to check out the ammo section one of these days. (No ammo at L.A. County Walmarts even before the stupid new Cali law requiring a background check...)

I have yet to find Walmart ammunition even on sale cheaper than I can get it from SGAmmo

I did order several AKM mags from them when I had gun that accepted them. Good company to deal with. Their ammo prices are usually better than Walmart. There are some exceptions for example I bought two boxes of Remington UMC 124 fmj at $10.63 per box which is less than what SGammo charges.

Ammo is finally leveling off. Thank Lord. I just purchased 500 rds for just under $80. I don't really recall a time where I got a better deal than that for brass 9mm. I also got 550rd packs of .22lr for $14 ea and they weren't even clearance. All the while the local gun shop next door is selling the same brand, same 550rd pack, for $45. I'm all about supporting the local shops and hate wal mart but every single item in the LGS is marked up unbelievably high. Not sure how they stay in business....

Count your blessings. The Walfart in this area is selling the Federal "red box" 550 rd. boxes for just under $20. Winchester 555s are going for about the same but the Rem. "Golden" 525 is going for almost $25 !!

If there is ammo on sale at Walmart there will be none when I get there. When someone tells me there’s an ammo sale at Walmart I smile, say “That’s nice” and move on with my day.
  1. There won’t be any when I get there.
  2. If there is there will be 3 guys ahead of me and they WILL buy everything.
  3. I will have to deal with dumb people inside and out.
  4. If my wife goes along I feel like I have been kidnapped and forced to run a gauntlet of stupidity before I get out of there.
No Thanks!

Same.
Honestly I have more or less settled on Atwood's for my ammo. It's on the shelf so you don't have to get someone with a key, if you aren't picky usually something is on sale, no dealing with dumb teenagers to unlock cabinets for you, pretty good stock of common stuff and sometimes you can find something a little odd ball/new, did I mention that it's not all locked up, I feel like that is important.

If I want better, different bullet construction than fmj psp, 6.5 Swede I have to drive to the city but plinking.

I bought 'all the ammo' at a local Walmart today-- that is, all 80 rds. they had in 7.62x39.

Their price on a brick of Thunderbolt .22 was excellent, but don't know whether this functions ok in my M&P .22. Golden Bullet is perfect in the M&P.

But I'm sure that Thunder would work well in the Ruger Mark IV Standard (even Subsonic mostly works!).
Our nearby Academy doesn't sell this variety.

Walmart is an exercise in how much frustration I am willing to accept. The greatest sale prices will not apply because there will be none on the shelf. I buy them at regular prices from the ammo place that I know will have inventory. Picked up some .22LR Aguila standard velocity at $19/500 today.

I stopped by a few to see what was on clearance. Only one had the Win Train and the Defend on sale. I can’t recall the prices because it didn’t seem like enough discount for me to care.

I stopped by Walmart and they had the Win Train on clearance for $14.38...bought the last two boxes. I usually pay $31. and change for the Winchester. It was enough of a savings to make it worth the walk back to the Sporting Goods...plus I needed the exercise anyway.

For those who said the price wasn’t low enough.....

YOU MUST HAVE THE ITEM SCANNED. SHELF PRICE MAY NOT BE THE SALE PRICE

Selection and price vary by store
