Trip to Chicago. What's the best thing I can carry?

I travel the streets of Chicago daily, often at night. Aside from my 9mm, my EDC includes: a 2.5" folding knife, saber red pepper spray, a hickory cane or a Maglight (2 cell), a fully charged cell phone with a spare battery.
Keep your head up, be alert, and always be respectful of all you meet especially the CPD.
Do Not bring a firearm, switchblade, metal baton, or brass knuckles, if stopped you will go to jail.

I don't think they've outlawed 5- or 6- cell Maglights yet . . . just remember if asked it's purely for lighting your way, not pummeling a mugger.

When we went DT for a theater evening I carryed pepper spray and my pocket knife (3" folder) everywhere.
Carrying a 3-inch knife concealed is a crime in Chicago (2.5-inch limit). It is legal to carry pepper-spray in Chicago. Private venues are free to make their own rules, though.

Just make a shank out of a toothbrush and carry it everywhere

Can't be over 2.5 inches though. Might be considered a knife/ dagger. Maybe one of those flossers would make a good sub-2.5 inch shank. I know in our local prison an inmate made a shank from jolly ranchers he stuck together......maybe that's OK in Chicago
