I've been a bit disillusioned by some of the gel test lately. Widely varying results with $1.00 a round ammo isn't really what you pay for. Ammo that exits 32" of gel yet won't fully penetrate a 100 lb pig (roughly 12").
So I decided to try some cheaper stuff in jugs.and then maybe on.a.dead hog (hog hunting) to see if it shows promise.
Gallon Waterjugs, 2 layers t-shirt.
Same low cost brand and lIne of jhp with cost in the $0.29 - 0.32 Round Range.
.380 (2.75") - 2 layers tshirt, 5 layers plastic, 16.5" of water (dents rear of 3rd jug). 0.52".Diameter.
Est. 11.8" of Gel Equivalent.
9mm (3.125") - 2 layers tshirt, 7 Layers of plastic, 16.5 - 22" of water (found bottom of 4th jug). 0.60" Diameter.
Est. 11.8" - 15.7" of Gel Equivalent.
I seems like it has a shot at expanding and reasonable penetration so I guess next time I kill a hog I'll give it a shot.
Might try .40 and .45 too if I can find it.
