32 H&R fans rejoice

I have been a fan of the 32 H&R since i bought a S&W snubbie (model 332) years ago. When shooting the magnums, it seems a lot of propellant is expended in a fireball coming out of the one and seven eights barrel. I wonder how much the Charter Arms 3 inch barrel would increase bullet velociity using the Federal commercial ammo?

Here's some data; Federal 32 H&R 85 grain JHP:
LCR 1.87" barrel = 953 fps
SP101 4.2" barrel = 1045 fps

So, a 3" barrel would produce about 1000 fps with the same ammo.

I think this gun is a reasonable attempt to sell a useful gun to the older, weaker set. As I am getting older, I am giving up on hard kicking calibers. I still shoot .357 magnum, .44 Special and .45 Long Colt in L frame or larger revolvers and always with at least 4 inches of barrel. My wife, due to arthritis, has given up on revolvers. The long double action pull is just too much. She keeps an old BERETTA .25ACP and my old GLOCK 42, both of which she can shoot without problems.
As for the PROFESSIONAL, I will wait till a 4 inch model is introduced.
My experience with 2 and 3 inch barreled revolvers is that a 2 inch makes a good pocket gun or ankle gun and is much better replaced by a 4 inch whenever you can. I like the idea of a low recoil round, but at 891 fps, the hollowpoint will not expand. With a 4 inch, you might be able to get over a 1000 fps and have a chance of expansion. Otherwise, just use .32 S&W Long with wadcutters.

According to charter they tested hollow points and said they expanded from the 3 inch barrel. They provided no documentation for that, however.

I like the CA offering and will be looking for one once they are in the wild.

Still would like to see someone make a large framed .32 revolver with a top and bottom rail. Hopefully get 10rds in it for the states will silly mag laws. I think it would be an interesting nightstand option.

I'd buy one for sure and probably get it taken by the wife, not that I'd complain too hard.

SteadyD,

I would like to know what load they used and see some gel tests. I know I sound skeptical, but experience has shown that is the safest path.

If FEDERAL came out with an HST load or SPEER with a Gold Dot load, I would be thrilled, but that is unlikely, unless the Professional really takes off.

I suspect they tested the Hornady FTX but that’s just a guess on my part. That bullet came out when the 3 inch SP101 was first around and Hornady showed video of it expanding, though they didn’t say way gun it was shot from. I have no idea if it was through denim or not.

Lucky Gunner has started testing 32 H&R but they are shooting it from 2 inch barrels. I’ll be curious to see if any expand from that length barrel.

I'm really digging this little gun. I'm hoping to pick one up this fall.

While I love the old school grips, I think I'll put some pach compacts on mine. I think it would make a great cool weather lightweight sidearm.

Has anyone, other than press reviews, even seen one yet?

Probably not, but I think they offered a 357 in the same configuration at one point. I’m curious if that sight was perhaps user replaceable? From the pics this one doesn’t appear to be dove tailed.

Nice, but I want the 45LC.

It's nice and I'm interested. Also interested in the .45 acp pitbull. Think I'll get the Professional first. I'm going with the idea that the Pro might become too "niche", and be discontinued. Pretty sure that the Pitbull will be around awhile.

I emailed them on when the Professional would be out and got a reply in 9 minutes! Reply was;

Thank You for the interest in our product. The Professional will be in production the end of May beginning of June.
Have a Great Day,

I emailed a few weeks ago and was told the same. I’m hopeful to get one but they may be hard to come by for a bit.

Any word on the official unveiling at the expo this weekend? I can’t find out much about it. It seems that most folk have little interest in this release.

If production starts in June, then maybe they will be available for purchase in September or October. Might have to order more brass from Starline. Also need to start experimenting with coated bullets since my only source for plated bullets for 32 mag, Rainier, is closing down.

That speed sure sounds low. With a book load of Hogdon Lil Gun and 85gr bullet I got 1250fps from a 4" SP-101 and 1305fps from a 5.5" single six. I never checked them from my S&W 431PD with 2" barrel but I figured between 1050 and 1100fps.

To hell with the 327 I think CA should build an affordable, stainless 5-shot DA, 44 Magnum w/4" barrel. It would be a great trail gun & one I would buy immediately.

Any word on when these hit stores? I saw of their FB that they were already leaving the factory but that was back when they first announced the professional. Can't find any more information though.
