New York City changes law to shut down upcoming SCOTUS gun case

Not if it is a ruling against gun rights because the law has been modified just enough. Better to have no ruling and no precedents. And the court is very likely to want to wait. They are in no hurry to get involved in a case that is changing as they review it. Better to delay the whole thing until you see how the new rules play out. Sometimes patience is really valuable.

Looks like they definitely over reached and now they gotta pay the piper.

When are they gonna learn cities are where people should carry. Places like NY, DC, LA, and Chicago are the same as school gun free zones. In other words fish in a barrel!

Honest people being able to defend themselves from robbery, rape and murder endangers their REAL constituents.

NYC is one of the safest big cities in the country. By a lot. You're missing out on so many cultural things if you avoid it only because you can't carry.

I worked there in LE from 1969 to 2009, The drop in crime over those four decades was truly amazing.

I mean, I'm not taking credit for all of it..... lol

Glad to see the city may get it's ears pinned back, they're way too restrictive when it comes to firearms.

Ever get to meet or work with Jim Cirillo?

Never met him, I worked for a different agency, but I was a big fan of him and the NYPD Stake Out Unit. They started in 1968 because of a proliferation of commercial armed robberies, they were disbanded in 1973 because they were too efficient.

If you turned to see where the commands to freeze or drop your weapon came from and pointed your weapon in their direction, it was all over for you. I'm sure they had a chilling effect on such robberies once the word got out in the newspapers.

In addition to his regulation .38Spl. revolver, he was also famously armed with an M-1 Carbine which he was extremely efficient with. The unit was also equipped with shotguns.

I'm from NY. Grew up in the Bronx, went to a private Christian school in Harlem, and went into the city often. With that said, there are plenty of other places in the country that offer cultural things and also allow you to carry.

Statistic are a funny thing... Using your rational... Kind of like putting me armed in a room with 10 people where one of them is murdered (crime rate bad). Then disarming me, adding 100 more people to the same room with the same murder, and then saying I don't need a gun and should feel safer being the per capita ratio has changed (now crime rate great)...

Even I was robbed with a razer blade to my face on the subway back in 1997. Luckily I wasn't hatmed... NYC may be safe unless your one of the unlucky unarmed percentage who didn't benifit from per capita crime statistics. In the city alone, there where 335 murders, 15,500 robberies, almost 31k aggravated assults, 12k burglaries, over 49k violent crimes... I will not visit because if I'm unfortunate and unlucky enough to be a part of percentage who is assulted, robed, etc, I refuse to be defenseless. YMMV.

I might agree if it's just myself (I've been there enough times for my lifetime already anyway) but I would be/am hesitant to go there unarmed with my two young kids.

But my boycott has more to do with my extreme dislike of the politics and disinterest in much of the cultural aspects, combined with a disinclination to spend my money there (much like DC, or San Fracisco). Not to mention how expensive it is.

Unfortunately, I have inlaws who live there and I'm sure I'll be coerced in visiting some time soon.

I worked there up till 2013 when I got hurt on the job on a roof at 149 and Broadway. But that said it's an interesting place to be but not sure I will ever go back, nothing there of interest anymore. Never had a problem crime wise even during the night when we had to work those hours once in awhile. But very costly to get there and park, etc. My wife went down there one time with my daughter and didn't understand the parking signs and it cost us $300. to get it back, and very rude people in traffic control when she went to get the car.

Neat. I had the Paul Kirchner book about him just wanted to see if anyone knew him personally.
