needless to say it left with me, A range report is to follow of course

I absolutely believe that there exist two modern service-size semi-autos that shine in the .40 S&W caliber: the SIG P-226 and the Beretta 96. And though .357 SIG is a little-known caliber, it's a terrific round.

Great deal, especially if those are the SIG-Lite night-sights, and the Mec-Gar mags are superb. Oh -- and no rail -- just like a proper SIG pistol should look.

Signed,
SIGaholic

Excellent deal! With all the “New” technology out there today and the increased demand for striker fired pistols following the DoD adopting the SIG 320 there are some real deals to be had on the older SIG double action pistols. Not long ago I purchased an older P226 in 357 SIG that came with 500 rounds of factory Winchester 125 grain frangible ammunition. I paid $500 for the pistol and ammo. The pistol was an LEO trade-in with quite a bit of external wear. Sent it back to SIG and for $138.00 they replaced all of the springs and pins and adjusted the de-cock mechanism. Bought a new OEM factory barrel on e-bay for $130.00. I love this stuff and will continue to look for deals on these older SIG pistols.

That's a great deal. Lotta gun for the money to be sure. I would love to get a used 226 of any flavor, but I don't see them come up often. The new ones are out of my price range. As someone who grew up in the 80's, the 226 and 92fs will always be the handguns of my generation. Iconic, reliable, beautiful sidearms.

Congrats!

I agree with these 2, I own a P-226/40 and I’ll add in the HK USP40, which I used to own and (stupidly) traded away.

I put a mag on paper to figure out where to hold with this pistol and the 357 round, have to cover my aiming point deep, shoots a little low with the winchester 125s
then I set up at 21' and put 3 mags to the head, i threw a few but got most of them close...I will try it with 40 next week, probably winchester 165s

Mongolow, Nice acquisition there. If your experience is like mine with a 9mm 226, you'll be soon shooting two inch groups at that distance.

Nice score. I bought a leo 226 in .40 with the night sights & the one piece grip (really makes a difference). The gun looked brand new. The gun with 3 mags. was 279. plus tax. I shot my glock 22 much better, so I gave the sig away.

Aargh..
Was finally able to shoot the 357 Sig barrel out of MY Sig P226 LE trade-in.
Wow! If the goal was 357 mag in an auto..success!
I spent 100 more for mine, had less mags. One heck of a gun!

I had a couple of those in that very set up back in the early to mid 2000's. The P226 is my favorite of the older P series SIG's and a sweet shooter. Next to the P250's, it has the best feeling/fitting grip of the lot.

I bought the 40 barrels for them, and my P229's, and a case for each gun. Other than to test fire them, never used them (liked the 357SIG better), and made out well selling everything, when Obama got in and the prices skyrocketed. 357SIG went from $250/1000 to $600/1000. 40S&W, while the exact same price as the 357SIG when I bought it, barely made $500. Still, made out great $$ wise. :)

I sold off all but a couple of my SIG's at that point, but still have a P226 MK25 and an old P228 police trade in.

Great deal! I'll need to get another 226 one of these days, probably finally get back into .40/.357 with it.

My P226/.40 is my only remaining forty, and is a great shooter

Have you not been looking online? Not as cheap or plentiful as they were before the madness started, but still some .40s out there and even the occasional 9mm. Especially if you can stomach the DAK.

Couple other places used to have plenty as well, drying up though.

Yep, I bought a 226 with rail from Aim Surplus about 4 months ago for $399. Minus some wear on the grip it looked brand new. Added the SRT system, some goodies from Armory Craft, a new OD green cerakote job on the frame, and a trigger job I've got a tricked out P226 for less than a new one.

Aim surplus, that was the other site I was thinking of, almost bought one from them myself at about that time.

Thanks
