Put like 40+ rounds thru my new LCP at lunch today. Had 2 hickups. Second round, pistol didnt go into battery. Had a heck of a time pulling the slide back. The fresh round had wedged in the chamber, stopping short of fully seated.
A few mags later I had another, same exact thing. Kept shooting with no other issues. These two manually extracted rounds have a bit of bulge at the base of the seated bullet. Its remington JHP from wally world. I suspect poor qc on the ammo. What do you think?

Remove the barrel from the slide. Check with a light to see if the chamber is rough. That can cause feeding hang ups. If it is rough, take it to a gunsmith and have them polish it with no leas than 400 grit sandpaper. That will smooth it out.

This may be a silly question it did you clean and oil it before shooting?
Yes Sir!
Considering that 40 other rounds chambered and fired and extracted without issue I think it may be ammo related. I will check the chamber for roughness.
I also intend to mic the rounds that jammed... they look to have a bulge below the seated bullet.

This morning I dropped the rest of the 100 round value pack into the chamber (is this the 'plunk test'?). Most stood proud a fraction of an inch, and needed a tiny amount of force to remove. A small handful seated flush and dropped back out as well.

The .380 acp cartridge headspaces on the rim mouth? Should every round seat flush? The two rounds that jammed at the range seated a bit proud and needed to be picked out. I'm guessing if i slammed them in there it would be difficult to remove them.

Today I plan to stop and buy some better quality defense rounds to check and take to the range next week.

Sounds like ammunition, especially if the case dimensions are irregular. Let us know how the other ammo works for you. I've been happy with my LCP.

Yeah, sounds like ammo issues.

Is the chamber area clear of burrs? They do pop up once in a while and can make small cartridge imperfections a bigger problem.

Once you get 100-200 through it the LCP should be good and reliable .

Stay safe.

get a box of winchester white box and see if it does the same thing. could be the ammo, could be the gun.

luck,

murf

Try Aguila. They are cheap and have been 100% through 600 rounds in my LCP. I tried Federal AE and had 1 round out of 100 fail to enter battery. Academy carries the Aguila if you have one.

That said my LCP was a little tight when new and didn't return to battery when slingshotting. I ran about 50 rounds through it manually before going to the range and other than the one Federal AE that wouldn't go into battery at round 743 have never had the issue at the range.

I have 2 LCPs, both fail to extract often enough that they are untrustworthy. Especially on what feels like hotter ammo. Both have been back to Ruger - great service. Replaced slide Assy on one and both slide & barrel on the other, but both still fail regularly. I’m very disappointed.

KelTec s are far more reliable in my experience.

Huh... thats disheartening. I hope this is not the case with mine. I hope its just a cheap ammo issue here.
I like this little pocket gun. I can already tell I'm probably going to buy the beretta pico as well. And maybe the kahr cw380.

My DIL got an LCP and a box of cheap Remington ammo. 15 out of 50 wouldn't fire. I looked at the cartridges that didn't fire and they all had faint indentations in the primers. I then compared case lengths and the 15 were all short of spec. I will not buy Remington ammo now.

My guess is it's more faulty ammo from the NEW Remington company.

I'm going to have to concur with our friend there. My LCP was bought Feb 2018 would fail every other round. Had to be sent back to Ruger who replaced the entire upper slide assembly it's reliable now but I've heard too many stories (on this forum alone) of people experiencing the same problem.

It's possible I suppose that mine have ammo related problems, I have 3 types of .380 available now and I'm going to check them again this week. Any more problems and I'll get rid of them in favor or KelTec .380s which have been reliable in the past. If the guns fail again I will give Ruger one more try if they want it but I'm not expecting much.

Almost all failures are to extract, the casings when this occurs show signs of the extractor tearing over the rim so It could be rough chambers. One was purchased about 2 years ago, one in the last 8 months. Didn't shoot either much until the last few months.

I had the same problem but not as bad. One failure every 30 rounds. Not acceptable. I replaced the recoil spring with a Wolff 12 lb to slow the slide, and polished the chamber to reduce the friction. It now runs like a sewing machine. Maybe a failure after 75-80 rounds once it has gotten really fouled. This I am happy with.

I picked up 4 new boxes of ammo. WWB, Winchester 'defend', remans from midwest and non reman from midwest. Dropped several random cartridges from each box into the chamber and each one plunked right down and stopped smart- dead flush with the chamber. I tried to push them in farther but they would not go. They all dropped right back out.
So at this point it definitely looks like a bad box of boom booms. I will contact remington and let them know. IIRC, they took care of me before w/ bad ammo. They sent a shipping label to send the bad stuff home and a check to reimburse the purchase price. That was several years ago.

My LCP is the only gun I've had so far that needed a "break-in". I had a 2 issues in the first 50-60 rounds, but nothing after that. I don't remember what those issues were, but failure to go into battery sounds familiar.

Actually, it did finally give up the ghost last month with over 1000 rounds through it and 9 years of regular pocket carry. I fired a round but slide only retracted about 1/16" of an inch and locked up so tight I couldn't budge it with a mallet and vise. Sent it to Ruger and they sent me a brand new LCP, I just picked it up last night. Put 150 rounds through it without a single hiccup, and I dare say it's about twice as accurate as my first LCP ever was.

Sent you a new one after 9 yrs? Thats amazing!
I contacted remington and they emailed a prepaid shipping label to send the bad stuff home. They are going to replace or reimburse- my choice I guess.

Ruger always takes care of you. Sounds like it's the ammo rather than the gun but if issues continue just send it in.

Yeah, I was surprised, I assumed they were going to tell me to pound sand. I did have to pay to ship the LCP back to them since the gun was "so old", but that's fine with me. It still beat shelling out $200 or more for a new pocket .380.
