Here's something I just picked up the other day. The pistol is rather typical of the FEG guns in that it has the high gloss blue finish and the small three dot sights.

This gun is in pretty decent overall shape although shows evidence of being carried a bit.

There are quite a few fine scratches in the finish and a little surface rust in the serrations on the safety. The magazine safety is gone and the grip screws and magazine catch screw are a little buggered up but not terribly so. The paint is missing from the front sight.

Most interesting is the bobbed hammer and slide stop axle that's cut flush. I thought I'd replace both parts but don't want to spend almost $100 total for these parts. And the bobbed hammer has actually grown on me. It looks unique and different yet functional. I think the lock time is better this way too.

No plans for this one yet. Maybe I'll have the feed ramp flattened and have modern sights installed. Heinie or Novak?

The flush-cut slide stop axle. It makes the pistol somewhat hard to field strip.

Was the previous owner a lefty?

Interesting looking FEG Hi-Power! Can't say I have seen too many with the hammer bobbed but know of quite a few shooters who use to get bit by the original round hammer. A little bit of Flitz on a toothbrush should get rid of that rust on the safety's grooves without harming the finish. Other than that it looks good to go. Let us know how things go at the range.

When I first got the gun I was planning on replacing the hammer. But now that I've dry fired the pistol a bit I think I'll leave it alone. The look has actually kind of grown on me and the lock time seems to be faster with the mass removed. Hopefully the gun won't have any ignition problems. I don't know what mainspring is in there now but it feels pretty stiff. Maybe the previous owner had to use an XP spring to get reliable ignition.

After I shoot the pistol a bit to make sure it works well I might send it off and have some decent sights installed and have the feed ramp flattened.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing with that lightened hammer and possible ignition problems. Hopefully everything will work out okay and your gun runs fine.

I'd replace the hammer just b/c I don't like not being able to thumb down the hammer if I wanted to (I likely wouldn't ever carry it that way, but my Hi Power usually sits in the safe unloaded and I don't like dry-firing older guns).

As to the sights: Heinie over Novak every time. They both work but Heinie just looks better, ESPECIALLY on the Hi Power :).

I carry Condition One so have no need to cock or decock the pistol by thumbing back or down on the hammer. And I dryfire all the time.

The hammer spur looks "normal" to me because that's what I'm used to seeing. But I really have no functional need for it.

interesting, but the hammer bugs me. I can understand a bob due to hammer bite, but that one just don't sit right w/ me.

Nice gun otherwise. Mine runs without fail.

Nice pick up! I've had one of those for about 30 years and it's still a good shooter.

Actually, a lighter hammer should in theory strike the primers harder all things being equal since it's moving faster.

Also in theory, you should be able to "get away with" a slightly lighter spring. Some springs may still be too light though so prudence is rewarded when testing for reliability.

nice gun there, my dad got this feg last year for $250. i like the rib, something different

That ones got the classy flair at the base of the grip too. My buddy has one with the fair but no rib. His shoots just as good as my T-series FN, but the FEG plastic-follower magazines that came with it had issues. Mec-gar mags solved the problem. Nice guns.

ya his shoots well, i got a metal follower mag i made into a 10 round for ny state. id like to find some commercial 10 round one day.

Great classic, 9mm auto loader gun! Congrats on your acquisition. I've got three BHPs and love them. They are fun range toys or just to hold and admire them. The FEG clones are excellent as well. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

They were somewhat shunned back in the day. This was years ago but I called Cylinder and Slide to inquire about having a bit of minor work done to a FEG. I was turned down flat. Imagine my surprise when a few years later I was thumbing through a firearms magazine and saw an article about a FEG that had been overhauled by C&S....

Had these guns been imported by someone like Springfield Armory they may have been taken more seriously 25 or 30 years ago.

My neighbor, who I knew for 20+ yrs. recently lost his battle with cancer.

His wife came over about a week ago and handed me a black nylon holster with this in it.

I couldn't believe it, my neighbor and I had discussed a deal on this pistol awhile back but, he just couldn't let it go for sentimental reasons,

I offered to pay her for it but, she wouldn't take any money, said, "he would have wanted you to have it."

Serial# starts out with 77cxxxx. It's almost NIB.

Haven't fired it yet but, I will, hundreds of times!
