I hope they do tours someday. My sister-in-law lives in Arkansas, so would be a cool diversion when we visit. :D
We have had plans to visit factory at Czech Republic on last January, but some health issue hit me hard on my head and have to be delayed till get better.
Even polymer process will be nice to see all around.

Great news. With the Sig plant opening in Jacksonville, we're going to have 3 major firearms plants within 20-30 miles of each other.

My father actually retired from the Remington plant in Lonoke.

An uncle and a cousin of mine did also.

Thats good news! I have not heard that. Good for the firearms industry and good for Arkansas. I just learned that Sig has an ammunition plant in Jacksonville! The Remington plant, located in Lonoke County, is one of the bigger employers in the area and also one of the better paying ones.

These are likely the DW jobs in NY heading south, which would mean that they are indeed fleeing to a gun friendly state.

All the NY peeps can thank Bloomburg Inc. for the demise of their jobs.

The operating costs will be low. Look at state ranking. Healthcare 49, education 42, infrastructure 46,.......and huge surprise quality of life 7, whaaaat?

At the risk of being a killjoy, I hope they can find workers having the ability and determination to keep the quality level high. "Unions" in the United States seem to focus more on pay and benefits than sweating over the job to be done.

I don't think they will have to worry about "unions" or labor laws. They score #7 ranking for quality of life so producing good product might be possible.

Unions are pretty much a non-issue here. The only ones I know of are for police, firefighters (maybe?), and teachers.

I am not to up to date on government contracts but opening a new plant with 550 workers leads me to believe they must have landed a nice one. Either that or something else happened because from what I have read gun sales have been in a slump since late 2016.

I hope this means they will be selling Bren 2 rifles in the US. I figured they must have a lot of trouble importing certain firearms.

It's *wonderful* to hear that CZ is expanding presence, investing in America, creating jobs and building a flagship location. But a quick look at this location on Google Maps satellite view shows that it is well on the inside edge of a massive 3.5 x 5.5 mile flood plain. It's not a good location and it is plain as day - the scalloped terrain indicates it has been thoroughly flooded many, many times. I hope CZ will reconsider this or it will very likely end up being catastrophic. I'd hate to see that. Too much risk no matter how cheap it may be.

Thank's for posting that...... It's the first I've heard about it. Looks like the federal government's current business friendly policies are still attracting good, solid jobs. Which in this case were good enough for them to expand here in America. There are many of our states where they wouldn't want to be, but there's plenty of others that offer good opportunity.

sevt_chevelle:

In the early 70s we drove from Lake Winnebago and Lee's Summit to "The Merry Go Round", at age 17. Was it on Southwest Avenue/Blvd. or such? Back then it wasn't a good area. Going there might be immed. after "One Block West ( live music bar by KU Med. Center) went Disco....
Isn't SW Blvd or such in KCK? I moved down south in '82 and don't remember so much about the area.

Saw my only "girl fight" on stage there, between live music songs such as "Smoke on the Water" in The Merry Go Round.

Back to guns--
My CZ-82 magazine shipped about three/four years ago from their KCK plant.

I talked to some folks this summer about the whole thing and they told me that the delays in moving were that the site was underwater, had been for months. Zero site prep then, no estimated time to do any work. I asked if that was maybe a bad sign for the future and... yeah. Not a clear plan to not have it destroyed every 10 years that anyone knew about. Maybe the executives have a secret plan though.

Also have heard that NKC "didn't want guns" which means as I get it, they wouldn't block any expansion etc but wouldn't actually offer incentives. I think every business demanding tax incentives etc is entirely out of hand, and we should stop it (and have had enough clients and suppliers screw up by not understanding how much the local community matters and moving 700 miles changes everything so it slows you down and costs more at least for a while), but whatever.

Also, heard from several folks they are not moving, and others also have said they have no interest in picking up and moving their family there. So, maybe good if you live down there and want a job, maybe bad if you like buying products from them. Hopefully they don't loose all the institutional knowledge of how to run the place if they do move and half the critical staff leaves.
