Nice! I got one that was an old police trade in a number of years back. Mines a -5. Great shooter and it too has a buttery smooth DAO trigger (my hammer is bobbed).

Mine wasnt near as nice on the outside when I got it, lots of finish wear and scratches, but seems it was well cared for otherwise. A bit of Mothers chrome polish cleaned her up pretty good. :)

Sounds like your son got a winner!

Looking closer, whats it got stamped on the right side of the barrel? Cant quite make it out.

Looks like your son, sensible lad that he is, has a real nice S&W to call his own!

Way to go Dad with the assist!

I got lucky enough to score a 64 snubbie recently, itll be my CCW gun this winter-

Very nice as well! Im always on the lookout for K frame snubbies. You dont see many in the shops around here. And when you do, they usually arent cheap.

I picked up a pretty nice 3" 65 last week. He had it for $650, I gave a CZ P10C and $285 for it.

Shoots good too. :)

Just picked up a police turn in 64-5 about 2 weeks ago, enjoying it. I carried a Model 10, the blued equivalent, for many years as a service gun with zero hiccups. Nothing like an older Smith for a great trigger.

I see lots of Hogue grips in these pics. Do you really prefer them over the Pachmyer grips? I have tried both, and find the Pachmeyers to be better grips in all ways. What is it you like about the Hogues?

Great find and a real good price. I have a 2", {2} 3" and a 4". Love them all. One of my 4" 64's has the best "from the factory" action I've ever seen on ANY S&W. Shoot it a lot, clean it and shoot it a lot more. It will provide you many hours of fun.

As much as I like a nice set of factory wood grips, even just the Magnas with a T grip, the Hogue rubber finger grips, as ugly as they are, are the grips for serious shooting. Especially with the heavier recoiling guns.

I find their RB Bantam grips to be about the best choice for the K/L frame snubbies. Their rubber boot grips for the J frames as well.

Well, perhaps for you.
I find the Hogue rubber finger groove grips to be too narrow. Especially for heavy loads.
The recoil driving that narrow grip into my palm makes shooting unpleasant.
I much prefer a Pachmeyer Presentation grip. Much wider at the back, spreading out the recoil to a larger area.

To each his own, but what you like ain't necessarily best for all.

Congratulations on a great gun!
I too got my 4 inch 64-3 for $400.
I love it. Great trigger and very accurate.
I will probably get another soon enough.

I also like my 2 inch models, a 64 no dash and 64-4. Both have great triggers as well.

These classic k frames are tough to beat! :)

I like my 2 642-1's and 442 but, they do not have the great triggers like the earlier k frames.

Thank you for sharing your story. It sounds like a perfect day and a moment to be remembered.
