I would wager that people are carrying more credit card debt, rather than having more disposable income.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks who are carrying more credit card debt, however they wouldn't be able to continue piling it on without the disposable income to keep up on minimum payments and maintain a credit limit above their debt.
Credit card companies make money. They're not just giving it away.

I know but buying stuff with disposable income versus buying stuff on credit are two very different things. Used to be folks saved their money until they could buy something. Now they just put it on a credit card and take the rest of their lives to pay for it. Credit card debt is a very easy trap to fall into.

I guess I am old school. My CC has a $0 balance but my SS income dictates that I save my money up for the purchase of only one gun per year. Sorta puts a crimp in my collection but I would rather eat and pay utilities to stay above water. I found a guy willing to trade some collector coins for an ASM 1860 Army this year and I used part of my mad money savings to obtain a full-fluted cylinder for it. There is no life in the fast lane around here anymore.
