I had great accuracy w those screamin' 180's........in 4, 6 and 8 3/8 Smiths.
Shot a few deer w em too. Usually a hole in and out of the lungs, same size too.
Did whack a doe from treestand angling to me, neck shot w exit intended low opp side lung.
Bullet hit spine and fragged, her head fell onto her back, neck pivot like on a gate hinge.
Plop, she was done.
My brother some distance away, had the sound channel to him............said it was surprisingly loud.
LOL

I really enjoy taking my RedHawk and loading it up with some H-110 and light bullets and going to the range. Or taking it for an evening shoot at a friend of mine’s house. Same thing with my Sharps and BP. It’s just a hoot and everyone has a great time.

The biggest flash and boom from a handheld gun i ever saw was a 500 sw mountain gun with a 3.5 in ported barrel. I took 1 shot and handed it back to him. Not so much recoil as flash and blast. I could feel the heat from the muzzle blast.

I plan to load some 460 S&W magnums with H110, and shoot them from a 5 inch barrel. I'll be interested to see how those size up in the flash bang department.

Awesome pictures OP, and the rest of the thread too. But this is also why I reserve my supply of H110 for 410 shot-shells and 450 Bushmaster. I have found better less showie powders for 44 mag.

for me, the flamethrower show is secondary to the extreme speed and accuracy of the combination. it is worth it to expend thirty something grains of powder, each shot, for that reason. I also enjoyed the show.

What powder do you prefer? I like warm loads and high velocity, but less flash is certainly desirable.

Or are you giving up some speed with a little faster powder?

Not giving up any speed, not in the revolver at least. 23.5 gr H110 got me 1351 fps from my 6.5-inch M29. 14.0gr of 800X got me 1371 fps. Both under a 240gr HP. No flash and significantly less muzzle blast from the 800X

Now in the carbine the same loads 800X is losing ~100 fps to the slower burning H110 in my 16-inch M92.

Thanks. I’ve got some 800x on hand. I’ll give it a try.
