What was the first gun you ever bought for yourself?

IMG_0027.JPG IMG_0032.JPG Almost the same day. Love em both.

First is a Colt Dective special. It now sports Wilson grips, Barstow barrel, Ed Brown grip safety, Wilson roundbuttt magwell and mainspring housing.

Kimber is bone stock. It's perfect the way it is.

Charter Arms AR-7, the second one I had, as my first was stolen out of my truck. 19, at a pawn shop in Ogden, Utah. 85 or 95 bucks, can't remember for sure. Not the best shooter in the world, but I got it more for its form factor and weight more than anything. Ended up breaking it badly out camping and another lgs gave me an acceptable amount for off a Remington 788 in .308.

Sig SP2340 in 357 Sig. Horrible choice for a first gun with how expensive the ammunition is, but I still wish I had held onto it.

The first gun that I bought for myself was a Colt “Combat Government”. I bought it in 1983 at B&B Guns in Hollywood California. I paid $317.00 for it. I wish I had a photo of it to show here.

I sold it in 1988. I regret selling it but I was unemployed and feeding my family was more important to me.

21st birthday on the dot. Walked into a small town gun store in the middle of nowhere VT and bought my first firearm. Walther P99. Same firearm I carried into town today.

The first gun I purchased myself was a Ruger 10/22. I was 18, I signed up for a Cabela's credit card in the store, and bought a stainless 10/22.

It was a great decision in more ways than one, because I used that credit card for everything after that to get points, which led to having some credit history when I needed to get my own vehicle loan just a few years later.

I bought a used Winchester Model 190 .22 semi-auto rifle in the late 70's. I bought it at a flea market. My dad was with me, and that's how I got it as I was quite young at the time. Bought a used Weaver scope from my uncle for $10 to put on it. It was a squirrel killing machine. My first new gun was also a Winchester, a12 gauge pump shotgun. Not sure of the model.... 120 Ranger maybe. It was cheap wood etc.

I still have both.

Bought an Auto Ordnance 1911 because it was cheap and I had no experience with any handguns except the 1911s I carried in the Army. I thought they were all the same. Unreliable out of the box. New Wilson mag helped. Polishing the feed ramp helped even more. Tuning the extractor was the real cure. It has been 100% reliable with any ammo since.

.25 Cal Titan. I was driving to Panama (My first duty station after Infantry Officer Basic Course) and one of the other lieutenants riding with me convinced me to purchase it for protection. Small enough to carry in my boot. If I had been busted with it I'd probably still be rotting in a Central American Jail.

Hi point 40 & 45 at the same time both from cabelas took them both out shooting immediately without any cleaning neither had any issues both were sold a few months later with minimal use and I got a black hawk

My late MIL used her little Titan .25 to scare off a would be late night intruder 35 years ago. When she “threw down” on him at the kitchen door, he looked at it briefly then took off running away... with her two little yappy dogs in hot pursuit. Lol

First ever firearms purchase ...
1. Rifle - Spanish 8mm Mauser, picked it out of a barrel at Katz General store Sportings Goods dept

2. Carbine - Ruger 10/22 - gun shop

3. Pistol - Glock 21, brand new in with 3 full capacity mags - sporting goods store

Last ... Shotgun - Mossberg 590 - Pawn Shop

All traded or sold long ago ...

I didn't actually buy a gun for myself until ~2011. I had gotten a few from my dad, and traded into a few more, but never 'bought.' My first purchase was a Ruger LCR.

An old model Ruger Single Six Convertible in 1972 as a first semester freshman at KSU.
Older guy in ROTC sold it to raise money for engagement ring.

Webley MK IV around 1964. I can't remember exactly what I paid for it but I know it was less than $20 with a box of 38 S&W ammo. I ordered it from a catalog and the mail carrier delivered it to the house. I was about 15 at the time and my dad said I could only shoot it when he was with me. That was fine with me as those were the rules for all of the firearms in the house. Not sure what happened to it as I went into the Navy a few years later and never saw it again. I liked the 357 Ruger BH I purchased when I was 22 a lot better.:D
