Friday I found out that I was maxed out on my Comp time at work, just over 200 hours and needed to burn some up so that I don’t loose any in the coming months. So I took today off to burn up ten comp hours.
What better to do on a paid day of other then go gun hunting. The first two shops I stopped of at, I ran into friends and ended up burning up a few hours just shooting the bull and finding nothing that I wanted to buy.
The third shop was closed for the day. It’s funny that I had never paid attention to their posted business hours that says they’re closed on Mondays.:(
So I started to head back home. I stopped and got my old dog some food at Tractor Supply and as I got back on the road, I thought about the pawn shop that was about five miles passed my house and decided to go by and see if the had anything I might want. I don’t go by this shop as often because it’s a little out of my way of my day to day driving.
As I walked in the door the store owner greets me and says that its been a few months since I’ve been by. We shoot the bull a little and then start looking at guns.
On the end of the rack I spot two Surplus rifles, a Yugo 24/47 and a 91/30 Mosin. The 24/47 looked great and the Mosin looked like crap. I asked to look at the 24/47 and see that it was priced $249.95. I asked if he could work on the price and was told I could have it for $225 out the door. I said deal.
I then asked what happened to the poor Mosin. It had been poorly refinished. It looked like someone had allowed stain to dry on the surface and then covered it with clear poly.
But it was a 39 Tula with a matching bolt. The price tag was marked $189.95. I thought to myself, what the hell so, I asked what would he let me have it for. The answer was $185 out the door. :)

Here are the two rifles. I’ll take some more pics and do a more detailed post on each.

win win day right there. all the shop by me are closed on mondays, all of them. one thing i missed about when i lived in alabama for 2 year, was the pawn shops. the one's here in ny seem to put 2x the top book value, they must just hope for people that don't know the real value.

You're going to need a bigger house to store all your collectables. Nice find.
But in the last two years I’ve given away two AR’s, a 22 rifle, a 20 ga shotgun, two Mausers, and traded off five or six other guns.
But then I have picked up a bunch of others :uhoh:.
I just can’t help it, I like guns.
You don't go there very often and you haven't been there for months but somehow I get the feeling you are still their best customer.
Well, I have bought about 20 guns from them over the last few years. I’ve also done stock work for them.

Curses! I am retired and have the rest of my life off, but pawn shops in Michigan can't sell guns! :) We only have one gun shop here and it has nothing in the Mauser arena.
Gunny how many pounds of long military rifles do you have??? :)

Any Finn or German marks that would have had the bolt blued, or was that part of the refinish?

I suspect refinish, but the Germans were known to blue captured Mosin bolts at their field revamp centers, and all were later sold to Finland in 1944.

The thing is you like doing what you do. Nothing wrong with that. I enjoy reading about your finds and your repairs. All very good. I buy about one rifle per month myself. This year Ruger 10/22 (M1 Carbine Style), K98, 700 MilSpec (300 WM), 1916 in 7x57, 1916 in 308, and I will be quiet now. And yes, I am looking for a bigger house.

Hi my name is gunny and I have a gun problem...

all answer hi gunny.
I don’t have a gun problem. I have a storage problem. But I’m working on it.
My oldest son moved out in December and I plan to turn his old bedroom into a gun room. That will give me a lot of room for a large gun safe and a bench.

You are one of the members here that makes it worth my time to create some of my post, because what reason would I have for making them if others didn’t enjoy them. Thank you and others that make posting here fun.
I also picked up a 1916 Spanish Mauser in 7x57 this year. But before I was able to take pics, I traded to Noah to keep up my lawn this summer.
Here’s a link to the post I did on the Yugo 24/47 Mauser, with a bunch of pics.

I took another day off today so, I should have time to creat a post on the Mosin.

I am looking forward to seeing pictures of your guest bedroom. Mattress laid on top of ammo crates? How about a baby crib for your grandchildren made out of large gun crate? Stack of large ammo cans for use as a dresser? Dummy 50 caliber BMG round for use as a teething ring for when the grandchild starts cutting teeth?

Your cult members are looking forward to your inspiration.
