The THR 1851/1860 Club

I am glad you want to tick off the Yankees (of which I am one!). I love ACW history and have no problem understanding either side, no matter whether one or the other side was right or wrong. One had to live in the day and the age.

I am not a fan of any .44 brasser with the rebated cylinder and the cut water table on an 1851 Navy. I see that yours has a date code [CL] 2013 and it looks like a "tail" grip profile which was discontinued in 2015. I have one from 2014 with the "tail", and I like the feel of it in the hand much better than the newer 2015+ grip profile. It is slimmer in the wrist. Your call.

Nice looking revolver, Bruce.

Regards,

Jim

When the owner of the little shop I bought in in handed it to me to look at , I could not believe how good it felt in my hand and how naturally it pointed. I didn’t know anything about BP at the time ( not that I know a lot now) but I reasearched the gun for quite a while before I bought my shooting supplies. I wanted to make sure I knew enough about it to be confident and safe wh I finally took it to the range. It’s a dream to shoot.
As to the ACW I just got a set of Lee’s Lieutenants on eBay and am starting to reread it. Last read it about 60 years ago. I’ve always been fascinated by “Marse Robert” a great general and a man who I think agonized about the decision to follow his state.
Have a blessed Sunday,
Bruce

As strange as it may seem, especially for a revolver with "pocket" in it's name; I think I actually prefer the Pocket Navy with the 6.5" barrel over the 5.5" barrel.

Yeah, having handled both, that's my assessment too.

I'm really struggling *not* to buy the Pocket Navy with 6.5" barrel... but it's hard. Yeah, the 1851 in .36 is great and a nice size, but I do like the size of the Pocket Navy! And the Uberti build seems a bit nicer than my Pietta 1851...

Same with me! I have always been a fan of the Model 1860 and figured I would get an 1851 to go along with it. But I love the lines and the size of the Pocket Navy.

Decisions, decisions!

Very interesting! I have never seen one like that. Can you tell us the date code and the manufacturer?

Thanks in advance!

Gunny

Two great additions to your BP collection! Also like the display board that you've got for them with the American Civil War (or if you prefer, the War for Southern Independence), photo montage for a background!

Woah ...back up a few posts...i want/need to know more about mr.foxmeadows' navy arms target model 1860 army. Is the railing for the sites detachable or part of the gun? Ive never seen this model before. I think i also speak for others as well when i say we need details.

Yes details and more pictures would be appreciated

Shoulder stock???

The frame was cast with "ears" on either side of the hammer to accept the rear end of the sight rib. The rib is screwed to the barrel, but I've only had it off a couple of times to clean under it. The rear sight is adjustable, and the factory front sight was too low, so I replaced it with something that worked.
I'd never seen anything like it, and have tried to find info online but there doesn't seem to be much out there.
It's buried in the safe right now, but I'll try to dig it out later. I don't really know who actually made it, but will look at the markings and post what I find.
It is cut for a stock, and was easily available in 1972, but I passed. If I'd wanted a rifle, I'd have bought one.
Fantastic accuracy...

Mr. Foxmeadow, thank you! Id love to get my hands on one. When youre able to take pics can you show how it disassembles if possible and not much of a hassle? Any and all info would be appreciated. Thanks again.

Is that a dragnavmy or a navoonmy?:p

Yes! Very good!

It is pictured on a Cabela's box, it has the Pietta "tail" grip profile (pre-2015), so I will term it is a G&G .44 Sheriff w/engraved cylinder "fantasy" gun.

Just as my Pietta 1851 Navy .36 2nd Model Dragoon is a "fantasy" gun. It is a parts gun and I don't think Pietta ever made one for the market. If Colt ever made one I find no documentation for one anywhere: maybe as a Colt employee's "lunch box special". It gives new meaning to the term "take-out". ;)

Cabela's sells lots of non-historic "replicas". They must have a ton of them in stock.

With a round trigger guard it would be a very nice Leech & Rigdon. Nope, Colt never made one but the Confederacy sure did at Columbus, Mississippi. Uberti has made a repro and Pietta could too since they have all the parts in an 1851 Navy frame and a Griswold & Gunnison barrel assembly.

That is freakin amazing! Great addition to any collection. Never seen or even heard of one of those. Thank you for the pics...we appreciate it.

foxmeadow,
Nice and interesting revolver.
I haven't picked up any new to me BP revolvers in a while but one like that would be hard to pass by.
Thanks for sharing

Thanks for the more in-depth photos!

The whole design with the ears on the frame and the way the sight rib attaches to the barrel was really well thought out!

Overall very neat but still seems kind of weird that this is the first time many of us here have ever seen anything like that before!
