Do you compromise where you go based on whether or not you can carry?

I am not referring to places of work, govt buildings, or the like. Think more theme parks, fairs, stadiums, concerts etc.

Basically I'm not asking whether or not you try to break the law with regards to places that we all know are a no go, but rather not go places that either have a sign or have legitimate means of you not being able to get in, whether that be metal detectors, security, LE or a combination.

Do you just choose not to inhabit such places or do you give up your gun for whatever reason?

Each of us has to make the choice to live the lives we chose to make our very limited time on earth worthwhile. For me, that includes swimming the ocean, foreign travel, doing ultra marathons, and engaging in other activities where I can't carry a firearm. If I stopped working out, stopped seeing art that inspires, and stopped exploring this very big world we inhabit, the tradeoff would not be worth it just to be able to carry while living a more insular life.

Besides, mindset>skillset>toolset, and those more important first and second components are portable wherever I go.

It depends on what the place or event is. If the Grandchildren are involved in a school function I'll leave my gun in the car. If its something for me I'll skip it. Like I said, it depends.

I have no problem going to places marked no guns without a gun. I just see it as a necessary part of life. I would most certainly like to dodge places like Universal Studios theme park in Orlando and their policy that you can't even enter with a pocket knife though.

Best to follow the law or not go. Unlawful carrying of a firearm can result in not having firearms. That’s not a good option for me.

So if I see a “No Firearms Allowed” sign, obviously I know I’m safe and don’t need to carry there.

I take my safety and the safety of ALL my loved ones very seriously.

That being a simple fact,it is unconscionable for me to risk their safety or mine..

Sound extreme ?.well if you have ever been in real harms way you would grasp my attitude.

I fully admit to the logical fact that having a gun,and of course knowing how to use it WELL,is not the only possible answer to a situation.

But just like any tool, there are situations where nothing else will suffice.

I carry first aid,a blade [ or 3 ] and any and all means to sav my butt.[ oh yea, a flashlight too ].

I am very happy that not all agree with me or my decisions,as long as they don't ask or expect me to live by their rules.

There are places that prohibit guns that I'd rather not go to, and I've skipped them, but not because I couldn't go armed. I don't remember any specific occasions in which I've declined to go somewhere because firearms were prohibited. I even used to do nightclubs from time to time, and guns are verboten in them here.

Generally no. I refuse to let others dictate how I live my life. I go where I want to go regardless of whether or not I can carry. If I can I often do, but don't always carry even when I can. There are certain places I avoid, even though I may be able to carry a gun in those places. A gun is just a tool, common sense will prevent most problems.

It depends on how necessary it is for me to go into a prohibited carry location. I usually don't patronize places that prohibit concealed carry, there are too many other similar places that allow concealed carry where I can get the same service/product.

I don't go most places where I can't carry in the first place.

I loathe the non-shooting sports so posted stadiums are irrelevant.
BW3 is posted but I hate sports bars so I wouldn't go anyway.
The indoor malls are posted but since all of the bookstores in them went out of business I don't go to them anymore.

The local Best Cuts was posted then wasn't then closed. The one I go to now isn't posted.
None of the restaurants I patronize are posted, nor are any of the grocery stores or banks.

Ohio's CCW laws have very little impact on my day to day activities.

Well lets see. For the last 15yrs Ive spent 6m a year in Middle East countries. Where I cannot even have a pocket knife.
Enjoying my free time is exactly what I do. So no it doesn't bother me to go to events where firearms are not allowed.

Interestingly enough, the one closest to me was posted when it first opened. That quickly went away. It is rural TX after all. (I had lunch with my 1911 on my hip today.)

Yes, to a point. I'm not a fan of being in large crowds, after a scary incident at a Van Halen concert back in the eighties. I rarely find myself in bars or clubs anymore, odd considering I used to make my living in them, both because of the prohibition and not really a drinker any more. Where I work they're banned for liability reasons and I agree with their reasoning behind it (lotta people in an enclosed space), but that doesn't bother me.
Businesses that don't want my guns just tell me they don't want my money either and I quietly let them have their way while patronizing less uptight places.

Carrying a firearm into a location where is it legally prohibited is a break even / lose proposition. At best, you don't get caught and nobody tries to harm you. In the latter case, you didn't need the gun anyway. If you do get caught, which will be the case if you need it to defend yourself, you can expect to be prosecuted. In my state, the first conviction is a misdemeanor. Subsequent ones are felonies after which permanent loss of your gun rights is one of the lesser of your problems.

In my opinion, the wisest course is to avoid as much as possible places where carry is illegal. (It helps to live where signs do not have the force of law.)

I don't usually go places I cannot carry, so there are some states that are off my list. I don't usually go to large events, and no gun signs have no lawful enforcement here.

The states where I can't carry are repugnant to me for other reasons in addition to their racially invidious gun laws, so I avoid them on GP.

The only large events I go to are gun shows.
