The local gun shop had a Winchester 9422 marked for $870 today. There were the usual few handling marks in the wood and a minor mar on the receiver in the right light, but was in overall good condition. Likely 90-95% condition.

What should be the going rate for a rifle like this? I am seeing GunBroker bidding starting at $700 and many going w active bidding at $800-1,000 range. If the shop came down in price to the $750-800 range OTD would this be a good deal?

Probably, with the marks you described it's a fair price if not maybe a touch too much. I paid $700 for one about 4 years ago that was in near perfect condition, but I felt as did others that, that was a very good price. It's hard when they aren't made anymore and there is a certain nostalgia about discontinued rifles from renowned gun makers. Is it checkered or non-checkered?

Non-checkered. Blue Book is showing $500-700 for most conditions but I do not consider that at all realistic. If it was I would be buying a few at sub $600...

Only you can answer if it's worth it to you. I'll say this they aren't getting any cheaper, you may find a better deal with someone who doesn't know the current going rate, but more than likely you'll pay more for one later on. I could be wrong, but I don't think so; all these older Winchesters and Marlins keep climbing in price over the years.

If you just want a good shooting lever action .22. The Uberti Silverboys are nice rifles, especially for the price, if you can find one available. I think Uberti just does runs of firearms.

True about price. Old threads about .22 Winchester 9422 from 2011-2014 show $550-650 in most instances, inflation calculator is showing $625-725.

Good luck with your decision, they are nice rifles. I put a Skinner adjustable aperture peep sight on mine.

Is it a Winchester or a USRA ? Standard or XTR? Checkered or smooth? Win made smooth XTR fetch the better coin

:) that and a magnum twin.......the ones folks around here want. They buy standards too.....none last long in used rack.

There was also two magnums in the rack, for $900 each I think. Better condition but more expensive to feed.

I don't know about the valuation.
However, these rifles are all steel inside and out and flawlessly reliable, and I don't see them any more.
And they take down with one screw. You used to able to replace it with a saddle ring.
I had a Winchester XTR with checkered stocks back in the day. I really wish I had it now.

ASC_1294.JPG Dang. I didn't know they were anywhere near 700 bucks. I have two but only paid 400 I think. Top one in that lot was recent manufacture. Bought it around 02 maybe? Had box (cardboard. Thin cardboard. Lol) and all. May have been new. I dont have much over 1k in all 5 of those. I've seen a couple for 5-600 lately. I just wasn't aware they had climbed that high, I knew the Marlins were up there. Not worth it to me, when other guns are so cheap right now but if I didn't have a few that opinion might change.

I paid 500 for a good .22 mag about 5 yrs ago.
Was a 70's model, non XTR.
Saw one with a minor ding, at LGS in .22 LR, for 700.
None of them had box or papers.

In total I've had three .9422M. Don't own any now, and won't buy another.
They are a dandy chuck popper to 75 yards. Nice to have if toting a big scoped centerfire.......use it for the up close stuff along creekbanks walking back to big field.

But the sights sucked then, and with older eyes are damn near worthless.
There's a 94 in .44 magnum for 550 at my LGS.
Not bad, has studs, bland as heck walnut.

I'll take a Ruger auto fingergroove. They aint all that great either, maybe less accurate. But they look and feel way better to me.

Pops has a super clean 9422 and a worn 9422M. Plus a killer wood 94 in .30-30. Post 64 though.
He likes lever guns just fine.

I say get it my magnum out of pawn shop few years ago was $700 I think in excellent condition. XTR Package they are only going to get higher.

bought a 95%+ pre-xtr early production 9422 (1974, if I remember right) in .22lr about five years ago out of a pawnshop for $575.
